Was never into the grunge sound myself, already infected with the old age virus by the time they came around, late 80s wasn't it? None of my children much liked it either, hell, did anyone outside of Seattle?
Bobby Slayton, the notorious insult comic, once said of Cobain's voice... "it (Cobain's voice)sounded like someone in the process of ingesting all the drugs and alcohol necessary to get brave enough to cut off one of his toes..."
Don't know why I brought this up, just woke up this morning and decided to express an opinion... finish the race, please...

oldguybc - how old are you? I will be 66 this year and I feel a total compassion and connection with KURT Cobain, so does my 37 year old daughter. Kurt was an artist, gifted and talented and troubled and unfortunately died young in a tragic way.
And, really, who is Bobby Slayton? (FWIW I know who he is), who would visit his grave and leave flowers after he has gone.
Maybe you have been away from the PNW for too long. :)

*blame the racerX grammar thread. Sorry.

None of my children much liked it either, hell, did anyone outside of Seattle?

    FWIW, from Wikipedia:

"Since its debut, the band has sold over 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide."

Corvus - :) funny and there is also Leonard Cohen to add to your list. I was having an "old guy" moment and couldn't remember his name and wonders of wonders, all I had to do was type "Suzanne takes" in a Google search and there it is.

gi - I used to work with a Japanese guy who was told when he emigrated to the US that he should pick an American sounding name because his name, Yasushi might be difficult for Americans to say! So being a Star Trek fan he thought of Captain Kirk, but somehow his new name ended up as Kurt!
Eventually he went back to being called Yaz!

This is so far out there I cannot believe it! Been doing a genealogy thing after having a daughter enroll me in "23andMe" a few months ago. Try to keep this as quick as possible.
My great grandmother was Anne Johnstone born around 1873 and died in the late 30s. She lived in the Grays Harbor/Aberdeen/Hoquiam area as did her family. She had two brothers named Sylvester and Benny (Ebenezer) who owned and operated a tavern or taverns in that area way back when. Doing a familial background check and came up with a Walter Cobane (could be Cobain) somewhere in there.
The area is right... shit oh dear, may have been bad- mouthing my cousin!
VB, will find out more or as much as I can & fer shure will be up in dear old Ballard this summer, we will definitely have a get- together!

Well, if Kurt can be Kirk then I suppose it's possible that Cobain can be Cobane :-)

Speaking of old man disease, if I enjoy listening to the Black Keys yet get angry when I do because my gut tells me they are ripping off Captain Beefheart, does that mean I am infected?

gracie - Ha ha, I remember that show on Public Access! Richard Lee was the guy and I used to seen him around town often when I worked downtown. He made me laugh, I loved his enthusiasm and determination. This is about him:

That's the guy. Wonder what he's up to these days. He ran for mayor one time, as I recall.
And Shannon Goddess Kringen -oh yeah. Gal in office named Shannon & we gave her a bad time. I looked up Kringen and she has website about will do nude modeling. Go figure. When she would put the camera up close to her face she looked like a crazy lady. She was very artful, though. Have to give her that. Richard Lee I can't give him any props. He was annoying.

OK, just finished listening to a bunch of Nirvana songs and in all honesty they did not do all that much for me. The ones he wrote did not have much thought in the lyrics, sort of like someone tossing out stuff while they were hot just to get the money that went with it. Cannot compare with Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, not even close to Cohen or Waits, my opinion, okay, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Sort of sorry I brought this up, actually, apologize to forum...

Well I dared him to listen. He listened and didn't like it! The idea of Cobain writing something just to get money is laughable though. In my opinion - before Ernie jumps all over me telling me I am taking it personally.
