I saw this on Facebook & was floored that there are people out there so ignorant. There was a Black History Month luncheon today at work and everyone was invited. I learned so much during that hour about the Black history of the U.S. and the workers personal experiences in life and not to mention the food was wonderful. One gal told me about coming to Seattle and seeing her first Filipino. In my case when I was about 9 a Black girl moved into our neighborhood & we became best friends. Some ignorant neighbor wrote the "N" word and "go back to where you belong" on their garage. I asked my mom what "N" meant & remember her saying they are just ignorant people who do not know better. Unfortunately the harassment continued and they were forced to move.

gracie, did they mention the first U.S. citizen to settle in Washington? George Bush. (No, I'm not joking.)

He was a free black who settled in what is now known as Bush Prairie just south of Tumwater. And that's just a small part of the story.

The Teabaggers are part of the progression Lee Atwater described, from calling people "Nigger" in the 1950's, to "Forced Busing" in the '60's and '70's, to "Welfare Queens" in the 1980's. Now it's diluted to "Socialist", and "Big Government", as Atwater predicted before he passed away, since they can't say "Nigger" anymore in public.

Sad that the John Birch Society has taken over the Republican party, and squeezed out all the rational, sane, intelligent people. Reagan now counts as a "Commie", and David Stockman is no doubt an alien to the current crop. Liked the smart ones-may they return someday.

Ipod, NOT strictly true. George Bush WAS an early settler in what would BECOME Washington State, but Marcus and Narcissa Whitman started a mission in Walla Walla TEN YEARS before Mr. Bush (and the other five families in that party) got to Washington State.

Awwww shucks, angrrrrfullone, I feel your love, honey. So sad you're such an angry little soul.

More from Lee Atwater, advisor of U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and chairman of the Republican National Committee, on the so-called "Southern Strategy":

"You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”"

    From the article:

    http://www.thenation.com/article/170841/exclusive-lee-atwaters-infamous-1981-interview-southern-strategy

Yes folks, racism is alive and well in the USA, and has a happy home in the modern Republican party, particularly in the Teapublican wing, sad to say. These days, it's more about "Brown" people, than about "Black" people. Rinse, repeat.

John Birch Society all over again.

Racism is one of the planks of the TP platform. To deny that is to miss a vital part of their "Take America Back" (from minorities) message. Sorry Teigyr, I'm only saying what others won't.

Anecdote: a very dark-skinned coworker of mine (who is himself from TN) was in the Orlando airport and he tried to chat up the TP people (just out of curiosity) and they all scattered like the rats that they are. No one would talk to him.

"Surveyers asked respondents in California and a half dozen battleground states (like Michigan and Ohio) a series of questions that political scientists typically use to measure racial hostility. On each one, Tea Party backers expressed more resentment than the rest of the population, even when controlling for partisanship and ideology. When read the statement that 'if blacks would only try harder, they could be just as well off as whites,' 73 percent of the movement's supporters agreed, while only 33 percent of people who disapproved of the Tea Party agreed. Asked if blacks should work their way up 'without special favors,' as the Irish, Italians, and other groups did, 88 percent of supporters agreed, compared to 56 percent of opponents. The study revealed that Tea Party enthusiasts were also more likely to have negative opinions of Latinos and immigrants."

Sadly I don't think there will ever be elimination of racism. But I would hope that people would not see color but a person. I do. I was in Sand Point, Idaho few years ago. I went into cafe that was like a truck driver stop because heard food really good. It was almost full, lots of loud talking. Then there was a lull & people looking up. I looked up & there was a family with one black guy with them. If looks could kill it was from some of those locals. They literally glared and quit talking, just staring. The family sat next to me and turns out girl was engaged to the black guy. They were totally aware of what was going on but ignored them. They engaged in conversation with me & they were the nicest people you could meet.

@Edog: If you saw the videos, they are saying there is no racism and bigotry in the Tea Parties. In fact, one person in the video is a graphic designer and says he knows how the "racist" signs are photoshopped. (You would know this already if you watched the videos.) Also, we are not talking about "how complicated race is in this world." We are talking about people making false accusations about the Tea Parties. Attacking me doesn't change the videos or the fact that people of many races are in the Tea Parties.

The best part is, the teabagger candidates that won primaries got stomped in the general elections, costing the right wing bigtime, in seats, and in money.

Watch the right wing civil war and meltdown, as Karl Rove, Dick Armey, and the Koch brothers all fight each other.

Perhaps real Republicans; real conservatives will step into the vacuum, and take the party back to sanity and reason away from the psychos.

Would be nice. No more holding the USA hostage for petulant BS.
