LOL at the idea that no parking signs should be made friendlier. Red lights are too mean looking, let's make them pink.
And as someone who worked retail all through high school and college, nothing is more obnoxious than special snowflake syndrome. They think they are ENTITLED to a one-time exception to store policy. They say "I'm never shopping here again" to try to get their way. They threaten to tell everyone they know about your horrible customer service. What they don't understand is that 20 other people came through before them saying exactly the same thing. How can a store operate making exceptions for all of the "special" customers?
I get that this thread was probably created when your frustration was fresh but it seems unfair to slam them if there really clear signs. I accidentally bought something all sales final once where there was no sign but it was printed on the back of the receipt. I asked how a first time customer was supposed to know since the receipt doesn't print until the purchase is made and by then it's too late. They said the cashiers are supposed to tell you. I didn't shop there again because I thought it was deceptive to hide their policy. Had there been a My (city I lived in) I probably would have made a post like this.

I don't think it was unreasonable for you to ask for store credit. Nor do I think it was unreasonable for them to deny your request. The store owner has policies that he feels help his bottom line more than hurt it.
If you never shop there again he has lost a one time customer who, if given the opportunity, would cost him money -- the time the purse was off the floor in your possesion it could have been sold to someone else who would keep it, the purse may now have to be marked down because of the length of time it has been at the store (even though for part of that time it wasn't available for sale as it was in your possession) the employee who was explaining the policy to you while he or she could have been helping another customer.
I understand you are frustrated because you see your situation as a one time circumstance, but they probably get that request a couple times a day so they need to have that policy in place and stick to it. But since you have the recipt why don't you donate it to Goodwill and keep the receipt for your 2013 taxes and write it off!

I think you should sell the purse on craigslist and post a link in this thread. I am curious to see if anyone here would be interested in buying it.

Jules - if you see someone park in a disabled parking spot, and no disabled parking card hanging in window or disabled license plate, you can call the police. It is a towable offense and a ticket.
I've also found the underground parking for the library always full. Yet when I go in there very few people.
I used to park down by the stadium when there was free parking. If possible get the spot that is just before the bus zone so no one could block me in. One night guys in my office gave me a ride & there was a car in front of me literally right up to my bumper and same behind me. No way I could get out. They were about to call 911 to report it & have towed when one guy leaned on it. The parking brake wasn't set. So they pushed that car right into the bus zone and left it and called 911 about car in bus zone.I was saying you can't do that & they said don't worry about it. They were in the wrong. I still felt bad for that person because they were going to come back to no car.Posted 2 months ago # -
Compass Rose - I asked Frank and Ethel if they remembered someone trying to return a purse and being upset when she couldn't get store credit. They remembered you! Wow, did you really throw the purse at them and shout obscenities? It was interesting to hear their side of it. Yeah, it might be that Classic Consignment is not a good place for you to shop if that's how you treat their staff people. Sheesh!
Posted 2 months ago # -
LOL!!! ah man, that's great! CR, you really came across like an a-hole in this thread, I can only imagine your actual behavior at the store....now the blanks are filling in.
so freaking funny. thanks silver, I needed a good chuckle!
Posted 2 months ago # -
Good thing it wasn't a cast iron pan .. Ouch !!!!
Posted 2 months ago # -
Silver, I absolutely did not shout obscenities. That is a lie.
Posted 2 months ago # -
so you DID throw the purse though?!! LOL LOL LOL LOL
probably shouldn't trash a local business when it sounds like you are the problem!
HA!
Posted 2 months ago # -
I realize you'd like to hear a juicy story, Eric, but that's a total exaggeration. I initially told them to keep the stupid purse, then took it and left.
Clearly, I am not the only one who's had problems with the way they treat customers. Numerous Yelp posters have also mentioned being treated rudely.
At any rate, I won't be back. The owners can suck it.
I patronize many local businesses and have never had an issue with any of them except CC.
Posted 2 months ago # -
well in a back and forth like this, i'd be way more likely to believe silver's info for some reason.
and one final point - HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
Posted 2 months ago # -
You are obviously easily amused. Believe whatever you want to believe. I couldn't care less.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Pretty good example of why one should be careful when airing their petty grievances on a public forum.
Now if only we could hear the other side of the story from some of Gracie's co-workers!
Posted 2 months ago # -
No kidding Ernie.
plasticbags 1+ for "special snowflake syndrome"
I bought a purse there on an impulse (never a good idea) and wanted to return it. I somehow failed to notice the "all sales final" sign and was informed about their policy when I tried to take it back today.
Solution? Dont buy shit you don't actully want, then expect others to change thier policies becasue you did someting dumb.
Next crisis please...
Posted 2 months ago # -
Ah, karma...
Posted 2 months ago # -
My goodness, what a bunch of sanctimonious souls you are. I'm sure none of you have ever bought something and later realized it was a mistake. No, you're obviously above all reproach, all of you. Perfectly righteous, upstanding and morally correct citizens, all.
Bite me.

I sometimes get in trouble when I go out for a few adult beverages and than go shopping online when I get home. I have to admit that I like to shop online because deliveries are like getting gifts.
Posted 2 months ago # -
That is very dangerous, BH. But then you get to be pleasantly surprised when you get a delivery of something you don't remember buying.
Zappos is especially dangerous.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Altrec is extremely dangerous for me. I also tend to get in trouble at Sonic Boom buying vinyl after a few drinks at the OP. I also make sure to let them know I am leaving my car in there lot while I shop. They are always polite about it and seem shocked that I ask permission. I just like to give a heads up out of respect.
Posted 2 months ago # -
If the tags were still active, I would label this thread "Heathers", because its full of a bunch of gossipy bitches who want to throw tantrums and kill each other with hearsay and innuendo.

Re: Shopping under the influence
I had a procedure earlier this year (okay a colonoscopy, satisfied? :-)). The nurse explicitly said that I should not go online immediately afterwards. Apparently a number of people have shopped online when still under the memory-erasing anesthetic and packages would mysteriously appear afterwards.
Apparently I had a cinnamon roll from Tall Grass Bakery and a latte from Robertino's, which I don't remember at all. I have no problem with that. Apparently I did stay offline as no packages were delivered.
Now I'll bow out and return this topic back to sniping.
Posted 2 months ago # -
What's the OP, BH? I don't know what Altrec is, but I definitely don't need to find more online shopping sites.
Edog, that is hilarious. ("Heather, why are you such a mega-bitch?" "Because I can be.")
Forum posters love a good pile-on. It's easy to throw stones under the cloak of anonymity. Some of the commentors here probably couldn't give a shit about CC; it's just fun to rip on someone else, though of course no one would admit it.
And for the posters who claim to be concerned about CC's reputation being maligned, nice job of keeping this thread at the top of the forum. Well done.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Cheese, I've heard stories about Ambien-fueled online shopping binges, with absolutely no memory of it afterward.
Posted 2 months ago # -
OP = Old Peculiar
Altrec is a site that specializes in outdoor clothing and equipment. They have killer prices on top name brands.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Oh, that place. Haven't been there in a long time. I do like it, though. It's pretty divey.
I think I'm safe from Altrec, but I can see how it might be tempting. Amazon and Zappos are my enablers.
Posted 2 months ago # -
So I read this thread (twice) and I also looked at Yelp. While the majority of people here love CC, a few on Yelp do not.
But, and this is a big 'but'. The Yelp complaints seem to be more about unfriendly staff on a couple of occasions - which I'm sure is true of any business. Bad day/headache/having to deal with purse throwing customers etc...:-)
I'm not sure that refusing to bend the clearly stated rules regarding purchases is a valid gripe.
At this point I am more interested in seeing a pic of the purse that caused such an uproar. I think you will learn to love it CR :-)
Posted 2 months ago # -
After this thread, I might dislike it even more, Penny. :) It's not a bad purse. It's red and the style is nice, but since it's faux leather (and as such, was overpriced at $35), it's a little crunchy and not comfortable under your arm when you wear it on your shoulder.
Again, "purse throwing" is a total exaggeration.
And whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? Store owners are not allowed to have a bad day and take it out on customers. That shit certainly didn't fly when I worked in retail and in restaurants.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Compass Rose, Did it ever occur to you to re-consign the purse? And, yes, you should do it at Classic Consignment. It is a consignment shop, not Nordstrom's. Treat them with some respect.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Perhaps they should treat their customers with more respect, Collingswood. But thanks for your unsolicited opinion. It means a great deal to me.
Posted 2 months ago # -
The customer is not always right. That's a myth. (Too hot McDonald's coffee, anyone?)
I think the distinction we sanctimonious types are trying to make, is while I'm sure we've all suffered buyer's remorse, most of us have not publicly slagged the place we bought said remorseful item at, or caused a scene when being held accountable to posted policies (whether or not any purses were actually thrown).
Perhaps that's splitting hairs.
Posted 2 months ago # -
I dunno Rose. I think "the customer is always right" refers more to gray areas where there is a difference of opinion. I'm not sure it applies to a clearly posted sign regarding sales being final.
Anyway, at least the purse now seems to have an interesting backstory :-)

When the zombie apocalypse starts this thread is going to seem even pettier than it already does!
Posted 2 months ago # -
Well, aren't you perfect, GAM.
Really, what do you care if I vent on an Internet forum? Are you the self-appointed online behavior police? You might want to take a look at yourself and ask why you're investing all this time and energy trying to make a point about something that has absolutely no relevance in your life. Is my behavior really that important to you?
Penny, yes, that's the policy. Again, for the umpteenth time, I was hoping for a compromise in the form of a store credit. I don't think that's unreasonable. I think it's just good business to try to make customers happy. I also realize they were within their rights to enforce their policy. But the upshot is, they lost a customer. And given the comments on Yelp, they might treat their customers a little better if they want to keep them.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Edog, you crack me up. :)
Posted 2 months ago # -
I think the infamous purse needs a name.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Bitchybag or bitchy-bag-carry-all
Posted 2 months ago # -
Hahahaha!!! That made me laugh out loud. :)
Posted 2 months ago # -
I think we should name the purse 'Christine'. There's a reason Fred and Ethel wanted it the heck out of their store. It's even the right color :-)
Posted 2 months ago # -
Compass Rose-
Perfect? Hardly! Oh, the stories I could tell...
Personally, I do tend to defend people wrongly accused. I also do tend to hold people accountable for things they say - or post. I would expect the same would be done in return if I posted something like the original post.
I think it's important for the community to defend its members when one, in this case the store, is misrepresented. That is what has been happening here. I realize it's uncomfortable for you, since it appears it's not in your nature to be contrite.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Ah Yelp, the great payback by consumers. The problem I have with it is some people use it as a petty "f you". Others make writing reviews on Yelp as some sort of career. Some get kickbacks from the business...
Salespeople can be cranky, that's ok. If the merchandise is decent and I find something I want, that's all I'm really there for.
And I've purchased things that were a mistake. I tend to rehome or donate those things. Once I purchased an Amazon Local voucher without realizing the restrictions (d'oh) so I e-mailed Amazon. I was ready to give the voucher to someone but Amazon refunded it.
My problem with the venting isn't so much the venting, it's the title of this thread. The place doesn't suck, they stood by their policy. How can that be sucking? You didn't get the outcome you wanted but you wanted them to violate their policy. I don't think an establishment that is simply following their posted rules deserves something like this to come up in a search unless the person searches reads the whole thread. That's my only problem.
Posted 2 months ago # -
GAM, if I wasn't the original poster, I would have gotten bored with this thread a long time ago.
The store wasn't "misrepresented." I recounted an experience I had there. That's it. I wasn't wrongly accusing them of anything. I clearly acknowledged I was in the wrong.
It's not "uncomfortable" for me. Please do not presume to know what I'm thinking. I just find it bizarre that anyone cares this much. I certainly wouldn't, unless I was directly involved.
Why is your place to be the arbiter of online behavior? Don't you have anything better to do? Or is being scoldy and self-righteous just in your nature?
Posted 2 months ago # -
Rose - I don't think you were around for EMVL. This thread has now taken on a life of its own and will live in infamy. GO STEERLERS!
Posted 2 months ago # -
Obviously, Teigyr, me saying they suck is only my opinion. "You suck" isn't a statement of fact. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence understands that.
Jesus, talk about overthinking the issue.
Posted 2 months ago # -
What is EMVL?
Well, I'm glad to have contributed something meaningful to the forum.
Posted 2 months ago # -
What a fantastic thread !!!
I think everyone that has posted in this thread should drink heavily today and then repost again tonight. I am on board with PG and want to see a pic of the purse. Cr maybe you can make the purse your avatar. The only thing this thread is missing in an employee of Classic Consignment during the incident posting on here.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Bored with your own thread! In light of the quit being such a bitch and logoff.
Posted 2 months ago # -
This thread is cloggin up the intertube for no good reason.
Posted 2 months ago # -
This thread is meaningless without a picture of the offending purse.
Posted 2 months ago # -
What is EMVL?
I believe it stands for Evil Mean Van Lady.
Posted 2 months ago # -
To this day I never go by the post office without doing a quick recon for the van lady.
Allison: Can we post pictures in this forum? Or do you have to do a link to flicker or something like that?
Posted 2 months ago # -
CR can post it as her avatar Cheese. Thinking about it though, I posted a flicker pic once.
I wonder what happened to the van lady?
Posted 2 months ago # -
EMVL=Evil Mini Van Lady
Posted 2 months ago # -
I am not changing my avatar to the purse. It's an okay purse; it's just uncomfortable to wear, since it's faux leather.
I'm heading out for a date with my sweetie downtown, but don't let that prevent you from posting more on this fascinating topic in my absence.
Have fun!
Posted 2 months ago # -
OMG! teigyr is right, when you search the google for "Classic Consignment Ballard" the 5th thing that comes up is "Classic Consignment Sucks"
That's kind of bad....
Posted 2 months ago # -
Oh...that is bad. But if someone decides to actually open the thread they will see that the majority of posts are positive. I would definitely do that if I bothered to google something.
Posted 2 months ago # -
yeah but whining about crap and besmirching a local business is our right.
Posted 2 months ago # -
If I was looking at reviews for CC and came across CR's original post without reading the whole thread I wouldn't think much of her rant. It's petty of her to post something like this since it's her own fault for not understanding the terms of sale. She should have just left it to herself and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
