I want to give a heads up to my fellow Ballardites before I post on Petfinder: I have 4 very adorable foster kittens ready for adoption (they're about 11 weeks old). I'd love to keep them local because, well, Ballard cats rule (plus, as an added bonus, if you ever need a cat sitter my kids will be there in a heartbeat).

    Here's their blog:

Yes, they have a blog! On their blog, you'll find information about each kitten as well as information about the shelter's adoption process (these kittens are from the King County Animal Shelter). Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Foster parents rock! You're doing a great service to these kitties and I hope all the little ones find good homes.

Hmmm ... we promised my daughter a "kitten to grow up with" for Christmas. I will check out the blog. Plus, our 14 year old cat could use a little guy to shake up his world a little ;)

Wiseone - When Clancy makes his way home, hopefully, he would be greeted wtih a new little playmate. It's not that you are replacing Clancy - can never do that. I still haven't reached that point of adopting a kitten/cat since my cat died. But it will come some day. I miss him every day.

Oh, I hope all the babies will stay in Ballard. If Romeow wasn't the monster from the deep lagoon I'd take 'em all. Romeow pushes our dog around--and Andy was here first.

Somebody is caring for Clancy. That's the only way I can think about it. I'm all for indoor-only cats and when Clancy comes home, don't let him out of your sight. =^.^=

Thanks everyone for your kind words about Clancy. We do miss him very much. I talked with my bf and at this time we are not ready to adopt a little kitten. They are all very sweet and adorable. It is just very hard on all of us right now. I hope the kittens find a loving home and also do stay in the Ballard area!

Just a follow-up, I still have 3 kittens available and they are going up on Petfinder today. I would love, love, LOVE if they could all stay in Ballard so if you're wavering, fire me an email asap so you can meet these little cuties. I know you're looking online, now come meet them in person!

I hope there's a way to make sure the people who want them are on the up and up... I keep hearing these rumors of people who show up to adopt or take animals only to use them for other purposes. I don't know if that's one of those urban legends, and I hate to be a downer, but hopefully these folks can be screened a bit!

There are some real whack jobs out there.
Can I just remind one more time: If you or someone you know has a black cat please keep him/her inside this Halloween!!!

Oh, and good luck finding honest and loving homes for your kittens, Bitterkat. If I didn't already have two cats I'd be contacting you. They're really adorable.

You guys should all seriously go meet these kittens! They are so sweet! They are down to three out of the four because I claimed one for our little family. It was hard to decide though because they are all really sweet and really cute!

Thank you ballardmama for taking in a new little kitten!

I still have 2 (possibly 3) and I can't believe they haven't been snatched up already! I do want to let everyone know that the King County shelter is now waiving the adoption fee so the kittens can be had for the mere price of a license ($30).

(Because of the fee waiver I'm being more cautious than ever before about who adopts these kittens. They trust me to find them great homes!)

oh man.. I am sure my husband would hate me if I brought another kitty into the house. especially after the expensive surgery our diabetic kitty just had.

Good luck finding them awesome homes!

I hear you SarahFK. This is why I have fosters! We've had a diabetic cat for 8 years and the only way I can bring in more cats is to do it the free and temporary way otherwise my husband would leave me for sure (it helps that he has a soft spot for kittens)!

You're killing me bitterkat! I have such a soft spot for both torbies and black kitties (I have one of each already!). They are SO cute - how are they doing? Are they feeling better?

That is SUCH great news! Congrats!

I have been thinking of fostering - how did you get involved? What is the process?

Every shelter is different but you usually have to go through a training process and sign some paper work. I know some shelters are pickier about who can foster than others (they should be!).

I'm going to the Seattle animal shelter's foster training session tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how it differs from the King County shelter.

Really, pandabur, it's so rewarding! Just don't get too attached. One of my kittens looked at me this morning and chirped at me and stood up on his hind legs and reached his little bear paws up at me for a hug. Argh! He's leaving tomorrow which is good because he's killing me!

That would be my problem bitterkat - I would get attached. Hell, I get attached just seeing them at All the Best Pet Care in the window. :) They are so lovey with their little faces and "come fight with me" paws antics. My youngest is over a year old and still has the kitten face - he's pretty petite too, only about 10 lbs. I still call him a kitten - he's still as looney as one and the most talkative I've ever met. He narrates his life all day long. The other one is 8 yrs old, found feral so she's not trustworthy of humans. The first weekend we lived in our new place, she heard me talking to OTHERS outside, scurried to hide in the wet bathtub, slipped as she tried to get out, and dislocated her hip. YIKES! Had to have hip surgery - perm attach to the hip socket. She's never going to jump up on things like she used to (she's also a big girl - 14 lbs!) but she's very happy. Animal Critical Care is a bit pricey I'm sure but they really know how to take care of the patient and the humans attached!

Ok that was a little verbose - I'm at work and miss my kitties! Must go home soon!
