Looking for a pediatrician who is reasonably personable and nurturing (i.e. not some jaded curmudgeon who hates kids/new parents and thinks everything they learned in the 70s is still gospel). The one I had heard good things about in Ballard doesn't do "meet and greets", and I'm not comfortable signing up with someone I've never met before!

Male or female is fine! Thanks :)

I strongly recommend Dr. McMahon at ballard pediatrics. He's great! My wife and I agree that he presents a very balanced opinion about our child's health, i.e. he's open minded and doesn't seem to glob onto the latest trend and preach it as gospel. All the other doctors we've seen there are great too with the exception of doctor Telzrow. My son only saw him once but he seemed on the curmudgeon side of the fence.

Dr. McMahon was very willing to give us a meet and greet and answer all of our questions.

I recommend Ballard Pediatrics. I've seen several of the doctors there and have been comfortable with all of them. I have to disagree with Ballard Dad about his assessment of Dr. Telzrow. Dr. Telzrow is my sons' doctor and we think he's great. I especially like his comforting, wise demeanor. No matter how upset/concerned/worried you are about your child's health, he's seen it all before & can calmly talk you through it. The only fault I find with the practice is that they seem disorganized regarding flu shots. I know there is a shortage, but the website says they are out and yet a friend who took her kids for a well child visit managed to get vaccines. They've been around for years, & you'd think they'd be able to come up with a better system for flu shot clinics.

I agree that Ballard Pediatrics is a great place. I grew up in Ballard and Dr. Telzrow was my pediatrician. Now that I have kids, I take them to Ballard Pediatrics. We either see Dr. Telzrow or Dr. Mallaris.

Didn't mean to knock Dr. Telzrow. Certainly one encounter doesn't indicate a trend. He was probably just having an off day. We all do.

Re: the flu shots, Yes Ballard Pediatrics has been giving them for a long time but this year is different. Because of H1N1, the seasonal flu shots have had limited production. Likewise the H1N1 shots themselves have been slow to reach the providers. The CDC is sending out conflicting delivery dates as well. Long story short: It's a different year. Let's give 'em a break.

My kids grew up seeing Dr. Telzrow and we just LOVE him. I cannot say enough about what a fantastic pediatrician he was/is. When he was unavailable, we also saw whoever was available at Ballard Pediatric and I thought all the docs there were great--Dr. McMahon for sure, but the others too. I think whoever you click with there would be a good choice.

I've been taking my son (now 13) to Ballard Pediatrics since he was a newborn. We see Dr. Telzrow and love him, but have seen other doctors there too and they are all great! Highly recommend.

We have been talking our son to Ballard Pediatrics since he was born in 2003. We love his doctor, Matthew Allen and he has been seen by most of the doctors there at one point or another and they all have been wonderful. We had an appointment to meet Dr. Allen before our son was born but he came early. Dr. Telzrow was on call that weekend and he came anyway to the hospital to make sure that our early baby was alright. I really appreciated the reassurance he gave us. Our little boy had trouble gaining weight his first year of life so they monitored him carefully. He also seem to catch every cold and flu around which gave us an opportunity to see several of the doctors there. They also have a drop in at 8 a.m. in which the first ten sick kids can be seen without an appointment. We used that a lot when he was a toddler. When our son fell and gashed his head last year, he was able to be seen right away by them rather than go to the emergency room which was great. Thanks for so much great feedback - sounds like Ballard Pediatrics is the way to go. I've discovered that some of the pediatric clinics that win copious awards with the "rockstar" docs are almost impossible to get into, closed on weekends and take forever to call you back. All that before a long drive across town! Happy I live in Ballard right now :)

  11. I think highly of this practice as well, and wanted to add that Kathy DelBeccaro (who we see with our little ones), and Sarah Archibald are both great pediatricians in that practice. And when you need a pediatric dentist, head on up to Jeffrey Marks on 85th.
