I was just curious if anyone else is stuck at home with the flu this week. Is there a lot of it going around Ballard?

To BallardGirl from ABallardgirl - So sorry you are sick. I know at work there's so many people sick. I got my flu shot and keep my fingers crossed I'll be okay. Get better and rest, rest, rest.

Thanks aballardgirl, I did not get a flu shot yet. I hope the worst is over, mostly really tired, headache and dont feel like eating. Guess it could be much worse....

Poor you! Sounds like a drag. On the plus side, you'll be well in time for Thanksgiving!
Can I bring you something?

Thanks for the offer Silver, I think everything I need is here. I felt well enough to eat today. I hope there are not too many little kids or elderly out there with this. Fortunately, my case is not too bad. Hope the headache goes away soon.....

Silver, when I was a kid my parents new this german lady who liked to give us drambui in hot water when we were sick. Forget if it worked or not, but it was sure fun! Unfortunately, I am not ready for that yet, perhaps in a day or 2. Thanks for the reminder, makes me all warm inside to think about it!

This post caught my eye - I just started coughing last night and today I'm all achy. I guess in a selfish way, it's kinda nice to have a fellow sufferer out there. :p
Hope you feel better soon ballardgirl! :) And Silver, you are such a sweetheart.

I'm coming down with....something. I just went to drop off my ballot and drop by Bartells for Kleenex. I have a scratchy throat and some sinus thing going on. I think I'll just lie low, and if it gets worse, my time-honored remedy of Benedictine and sleeping 20 hours in a row usually works. But I'm pretty sure it is not Hamthrax, aka: Swine Flu.

thanks isabeau, I have been sick since sunday morning and have slept as much as I could. I think that and a lot of liquids (water juice and tea) have helped a lot!
Hope you get better soon. The time will go by faster if you keep the tv off during the day, its just a bunch of cr*p and makes the time go by very slow...Posted 2 weeks ago # -
There is a fever/cough virus keeping a lot of kids home from my kids' schools- not as bad as a flu but the sore throat that I had with it was very uncomfortable.

I'd like to recommend popsicles and tylenol for folks just coming down with the flu. I am usually a motrin person, but you'll want something easy on your stomach to bring down the fever and we found popsicles to be invaluable. Cough drops too. For someone who is really sick, there were these "slow melt" mini-popsicles I got from amazon. Those were just the right size for someone who wasn't with it enough to drink water, with less chance to turn into a mess. We were sick enough that jello wasn't very useful. Oh, and of course gatorade or something else with electrolytes for when you are feeling well enough to drink something.

Not sure what I had but it was sore throat first, headache/sore throat second, almost directly to my lungs third. No fever but 100% fatigue and achy. After four days felt lots better but the cough lingered on, shortness of breath moved in and that has kept me close to home. Haven't been well enough to get the seasonal flu shot nor the H1N1 even if we had it available to us.
I blame it all on Comcast. I had to get the cable boxes and I have been so frustrated with tiling of the channels, four different remotes for three different tv's that I almost forgot I don't feel well. Has anybody else suffered the slings and arrows of Comcast's switch to all digital? I'm ready to toss my old tv, my two HDTV's and read books instead. Brugh.

Several years ago I got REALLY SICK for 3 weeks, pedialyte makes a freeze n squeeze popsicle and they were great, no mess and a less strong flavor than gatorade. Another handy thing is the individual applesauce cups. They are pretty easy to get down, especially if they are not cold.

SunriseSunset, I had comcast 'tiling' problems for about 3 weeks. First they told me it was something in the neighborhood, then it came back and they said it was something in my house. I told them I could not take any more time off of work to be here for them and asked that they check the pole. The next technician found problems at the pole he could not fix. Someone else came out the next day to fix it and now it works perfecto. If you press them a bit, they can get the job done.
Hope you feel better, since you have had shortness of breath, I hope you have contacted your doctor!

ballardgirl, I looked for those pedialyte pops, but could not find them at the time. You know you're really sick when they taste good!

Thanks, ballardgirl - My doc has me on a good regimen to control the shortness of breath. Sometimes I have a little panic thing going on at, say, 2AM, but I have a handle on the use/abuse of inhalers.
I live in my 1920 childhood home. I remember my Dad complaining when cable tv came on the scene. Our location at the top of Sunset Hill caused cable interference with the KING KOMO towers on Queen Anne. We never got good reception with cable and my Dad never stopped complaining about it.
Now, twenty years later, here I am complaining about Comcast digital cable. Sigh.

Same story for me, although they fixed the problem on the pole in the same day.
I hope you feel better soon. Let us know if we can bring you anything.

I am sick. Cough cough. Drambuie and tea would be nice...

just a heads up for all the flu sufferers out there: When you get better, go get the seasonal flu shot (if anyone has it available!). You might be able to avoid the second round when the seasonal flu starts to show up. Good luck everyone.

So I finally ventured out of the house for the first time since Saturday. First thing is once I was out I realized how bad I really feel. Head is still achy and foggy. I went to Walgreens and they have pedialyte in single serving packets to add to water. Very handy!

Also, I picked up some Drambui on the way home, just had a taste of it and it made me feel all warm and toasty. Dont think I can handle much more than that little taste, but it was sure nice!

Get well soon. It's the pits to be sick and feel as if you'll never be well again. Sigh. But we are sending all good thoughts for a good recovery.
Thanks for the advice about blankety-blankety-blank Comcast. My set is still tiling like crazy. I am thinking seriously of returning all three ugly digital boxes and calling DishNetwork. I've gone through set up, live chat, phone menus, stopped a truck on 32nd and asked how to fix the problem......nada, zilch, zero in the help department. Another sigh.

Sunrise - My ignorance here but what is "tiling" on your TV? I have Comcast, got the little digital boxes but have not hooked them up. Not after reading about others having problems. And I still get all the channels I had before - they are just in different locations. My TV is HD, digital so now like channel 35 (food channel) is now like 92-5. It's kind of a pain until I get them memorized (or write them down for reference). I, too, live on Sunset Hill and to be honest have never had a problem - well take that back. Some years back would get a black bar that company before Comcast said was caused by KING TV tower. The only thing that is happening now is every once in awhile all stations will switch to CNN or one of those channels for a brief moment. I have been reluctant to use that little box because I like the remote for my TV and told by Comcast that some features would not transfer to their remote.

Hey aballardgirl, I'm in Sunset Hlll too. I had to venture out to pick up a prescription (not flu-related)at Bartells...still feel like hell, but have a doctor appt. tomorrow...yeah, head feels foggy...achy, coughing, sore throat, sinus ickiness, etc. I'm beginning to lose my will to live.
I just noticed that I have had my sweater on inside out ALL DAY.

Did I mention that I have sciatica, so every time I cough it sends a sharp shooting pain down my leg? Honestly, I am loosing my will to live, and I sure hope they can hook me up with better drugs at the doctors.
To anyone who I amy have inadvertantly coughed near at Bartell Drugs in the last 5 days; forgive me, and I hope you don't get this crud.
