I'm looking for some unique finishing touches for my house. I like international pieces (african, indian, native american, asian), they don't have to be authentic, just decent looking. I'm looking for prints, fabric wall hangings, masks, figurines, etc.

Cost Plus is good, but where else? Has anyone ordered from Nat Geo's site Novica.com? I'm not interested in spending a fortune, but I don't mind spending some $ esp if I know it's actually going back to the country of origin.

    Thanks!

There's that new(ish) fair trade place on Market Street. The one that also sells fudge and has a coffee shop? I can't remember the name of it.

And of course the lovely if pricey La Tienda!

10000 Villages. It’s fair trade. There’s a store in the Roosevelt district and they also sell online

I have been super happy with Paisley Imports. It is located in Ballard and the buyer has a great eye for unique items from India. Many are handpainted and very unique. I have three pieces of furniture from Paisley in my great room and have also bought some amazing hand stamped table linens and home decor items. They are wholesale importers but have quarterly warehouse sales to make room for new items. I think there is a sales coming up at the first of Dec - they had one last year and I did some holiday shopping... If you call them, the owner will make an appointment to meet you there for you to browse. She is easy going and there is no pressure. Or, you can find out the date for the sale. Good Luck! Market Street Traders is what you're thinking of Silver. Highly recommend it for new and fabulously funky. And the fudge counter is a real plus. :-)
If you don't mind used, though, look at Deluxe Junk in Fremont. They have great furniture from the '50's and '60's that add conversation pieces to any home. Great stuff.

Nah. I think e-bay has hurt businesses like Deluxe Junk. So I happily recommend it to anyone who asks. :-)

Silver and BriarRose beat me to my 2 suggestions- 10,000 Villages and Market St Traders sound exactly like what you're looking for. And if you have a Chinook book there is a $5 off coupon for the latter.

Thank you, World Traveler for your kind comments. Paisley Imports is my company - and I am a local Ballard business owner. I will be having a sale the weekend of December 5th & 6th but always am open to scheduling individual appointments. The website is in the process of changing but you can see some of the items available although the prices are anywhere from 15%-70% off those and there is a much bigger selection in the warehouse. I am joining the Fair Trade Federation so I need to clear some of the merchandise out that is not fairly traded. www.paisleyimports.com
There is also a Click-To-Save! coupon on the Seattle Woman magazine website. Bring a donation for the Ballard Food Bank and receive an additional 15% off fashion, table and bed linens. http://www.seattlewomanmagazine.com/clicktosave.htm

Thank you everyone for your recommendations! I do like Market St Traders, I bought two bags there, and and 10K Villages is lovely. I will definitely check out Paisley Imports! Hi Randi! :)

Any other recommendations? They don't have to be in Ballard... :)

Pandabur, do give me a call. I will be at my warehouse for a few hours on Saturday if you want to shop!
And Te, yes, I feel much better about what I'm doing now. Thanks.

    Heh. I worry about them.
Every time I'm in there lately I'm one of only maybe one or two other customers. :-(

Don't worry about them. They choose to only be open certain days of the week. Also, I don't think they'd carry much in the way of what pandabur is seeking to decorate with. It's more 50's - 60's decor. Just my style. :)
