Last night, As my husband was walking our son home from an evening event at West Woodland we saw three flashes of bright blue light up the clouds. It was way up in the clouds, there was no thunder, while it was windy, there was no rain. We could not hear any helicopters or any explosion. The flashes lasted about one to two seconds and we saw three of them looking towards Fremont. Anyone have any idea what that was?

from reading the other posts on the storm, sounds like you saw the reflection of one (or more) transformers blowing.

It was before the storm got bad - about 7:30 p.m. It looked it was only up above and we could not hear any explosions. But it was in the direction of the transfer station. Scary!

XL, I came across a show on the Discovery channel tonight about lightning and it showed camera footage of what is happening above the clouds as lightning storms begin. It looked very blue and I'm thinking the explanation would have explained what you witnessed... sorry I didn't retain the info well enough to regurgitate it here!
