  1. Welcome to the My Ballard forum! We have a few rules of conduct to ensure the discussions are kept civil and constructive.

We do not moderate content before it's posted, but we periodically monitor the forum. If you notice a post that breaks the rules, please email us at tips@myballard.com with "ABUSE" in the subject line.

In our classifieds forum, it's BUYER AND SELLER BEWARE. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. For more information on internet scams, please visit http://www.ic3.gov/preventiontips.aspx.

    FORUM RULES:

    1. Do not use obscene or offensive language. You may not post or link to any material that could be considered obscene, indecent, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening, harassing or in violation of the law.

    2. UPDATED: Tell the truth. You may not post or link to any material that could be considered libelous, defamatory or false. Do not accuse an individual who can be identified with a crime, or imply or threaten civil action. Any discussion that originates from criminal or legal accusations made on the forum, against an identifiable private individual, may be deleted.

    3. Respect the privacy of others. Do not harvest or otherwise collect names, email addresses or other identifying information from other participants. Do not post anyone's personal information.

    4. Do not steal. Post only those materials for which you have copyright. You may not post material that infringes the rights of others including copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy, personal or other proprietary rights.

    5. Don't misrepresent yourself as someone else.

    6. Do not post an item for sale, rent or for free that you do not own outright or have the legal right to transfer to someone else. Do not solicit funds under false pretenses or misrepresentation.

    7. Do not disrupt a forum thread with repetitive, inflammatory posts.

My Ballard reserves the right, but does not assume the obligation, to investigate any violation of these forum rules or any other misuse of the site. My Ballard further reserves the right (each in its sole discretion) to screen, edit, modify, remove or disable access to any users posts that violates these provisions or that My Ballard deems objectionable.

If you have any questions, please email tips@myballard.com.

How can you stop scab entries entreating web addresses 'Craig's List' style.
    Irritating.

If you post a thread and you get a message saying it has been removed, is it an error or did you get the boot?

is it going to be common practice now to close threads at the request of folks that don't like what is being posted? its "your" blog/forum, but it sets a weird and seemingly arbitrary standard in my humble opinion.

Is it possible to add an additional rule pertaining to posting in the correct sections? i.e requiring a post for a business offering a deal to be posted in the classifieds section versus the open forum. People ignoring the different sections and what they are intended for when they post seems to be an increasing problem.

  8. Hi, I would also like this qualified and upheld. It gets annoying weeding through ads on the open forum.

Also, is it possible to include "original poster/thread starter" in the indicies? It does matter to me who started the thread. Some only begin threads to whine, some to fight, some to blah blah blah, and some I might be interested in reading. I am used to knowing who began the thread on most forums/boards.

Thanks, and hope the new baby has brought even more joy in your household.

I agree. Please create a rule asking people to post to the correct section.

I just realized that these rules appear to apply only to the Forum. I suggest that similar rules be applied to the comments associated with the articles.

I think those with a fragile psyche should be refrained from making suggestions until their neurosis is treated. Hmm...
What very recent post could I be talking about?

New here: Can't quite figure out how posters contact each other as clicking on the person doesn't seem to go anywhere. Need more information posted about how this place works. Seems like you can't delete posts either, which seems odd.

    Kittiestars,

    Welcome to the forum!!

The folks who own the Forum are the Geeky_Swedes. The first post in this thread is their intro to the site, and they do maintain an email you can use for questions about the site. tips@myballard.com

I haven't seen anything written that describes how the forum itself works. We have all learned by trial and error.

Basically, you can create a new topic or you can create a new Reply within a topic. If you act quickly, within 1 hour i believe, you can edit a post you put up. But you can't delete the whole reply. In that first hour there is an edit option on the reply itself. After 1 hour it disappears. And obviously you can't edit someone else's post. It is a pretty basic forum system.

So far as how to contact someone....the forum doesn't have a provision for presenting any contact information. Generally if one of us wants to reach someone else outside of the forum we will just ask that person for their contact in a reply. Some folks are understandably very private and prefer to remain anonymous. Others are more open. We do tend to code our emails or phone numbers if we give them out in an effort to stop crawlers from grabbing emails and phone numbers for spam purposes. For example, I generally show my e mail as d underscore somers at that email with hot in its name. I might spell out my phone number if I give it. You are always welcome to contact me by email by the way. I have not tried to be anonymous on the site, though I do try to make it harder for crawlers.

Hope that helps a bit!! And welcome again!

Hi, I'm new to My Ballard -- thanks for the site! I got a job in downtown Seattle and have been house-sitting North to South to figure out where I want to rent while I wait for my farm to sell in eastern WA, and Ballard is PERFECT! I'm a novice with blogs and FB, and a bit nervous about putting my phone number on any site. Do readers post ads and just check for replies, or should I put my gmail address? Thank you so much!

While I freely admit to breaking rule number one in that I tend to use a swear word on occasion, I am by no means the worst participant in that regards.

I always tell the truth and never threaten anybody even though I have been threatened.

I adamantly protect others privacy and have never even come close to breaking that rule.

I do not steal specially not other people's words though there are many who regularly do that.

I am one of the few particiapants who does not misrepresent myself as someone else.

I have never tried to sell anything I don't own.

And what exactly are we here for if we can't be inflammatory every now and then. Seriously!

I understand you have written these rules so that you can censor anyone at any time for any reason you want, but seriously, the rules should by administered by you and/or your appointees with a more even hand.
