Ella Mon is having a sale, and has some great stuff! Check it out! (no, I do not work there nor do I get any sort of "kickback".) They have really nice clothes- and the owner, Monica is great. (22nd, across from the Bell Tower.)

IF you are a size 12 or smaller, you will make out like a bandit. Some of the clothing lines are ones I love, and you will not find in any other stores, like Walter, and Nougat. They also have accessories, coats and some jewelry on sale.

What I love about this store (besides the friendly owner and the beautiful decor) is that the clothes are beautiful and wearable, ie: for the real person, age @20-something to 50-something, not just for anorexic teenagers. Plus, the clothes are lovely; beautiful fabrics, beautiful designs. I am pretty poor, but every once in a while I save up and buy something that is beautiful and ...memorable. (there is an absolutely fabulous gold coat by Walter that I would love to have, but, alas, it is too small for me.)

They have an entire rack of GORGEOUS cocktail dresses that I would kill to own.

  4. OK, cocktail dresses did it! I have a cocktail party to go to tonight, what a great excuse to buy a new dress (on sale!)

    Thanks!

The thing I love about Ella Mon is that you will NOT see your dress/sweater/coat on the back of every third person you see; a lot of the items are very unique. Oh, how I wish I were thinner AND gainfully employed; I'd buy one of everything.

julesage; if I thought for one nanosecond that I could loose enough weight EVER to get into that gold coat (size 10) I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Thanks to Jules' heads-up, I scored a beautiful silk blouse for $30 and learned there is a high end designer out there who considers me a size 10. Score!

I second what you said Jules about Monica. I met her a few weeks ago in the store and she's amazing! Totally loved her.

If we all want to keep nice stores like this around, we have to support them! I'm so happy somene got the gold coat- if there were anyway at all I could've fit into it, I would've bought it. They do have such lovely clothes!

  16. I just went there and got THREE stunning dresses!!! Ohmygod, I love them all! Two amazing olive green gowns, one 40's spaghetti strap style, the other 50's full skirt with a cowl back collar. Another Farinaz silk dress that I think I'll wear tonight! And a beautiful turquoise silk top for $5!!! There's another of the 50's style there for anyone who's tiny, it's a size 2. Over $300 originally I think for $60!

I've been looking for a green dress that I liked for years and finally found two. I can't wait to wear them somewhere!

Thanks so much for posting this Jules, I'm totally on their mailing list for future sales! I also saw the skirt you're getting, very cute! ;-)

(For anyone who likes Farinaz, there is a Thrift Store on 45th across the street from the Chevron by Archie McPhees that was given a few hundred on them last year, and they've been selling them for $7-$20 a piece, brand new. Retail on them is $195+. They are really beautiful shirts, I got half a dozen for me and a bunch for friends and family as well!)

Are you talking about the Chevron that's east of the new Archie location? I can't even think if a thrift store around there. Sounds like a good tip though.
