Does anyone know what the story is with the tents that are springing up along Seaview Ave near 24th? Is this Seattle's newest tent city?

Tents on Seaview

UP Gnome: I have seen up to 3 tents there, 1 to 3 of the tents have been there 2+ weeks, I drive by them daily. I e-mailed the SPD on March 24th using the SPD web site. I have seen 2 men exit one of the tents at 8am also several bicycles located there. I don't understand why the SPD parking enforcement can seem to mark my tires on a regular basis while parked in Ballard, but the SPD can't seem to see 1-3 large camping tents near a busy road on a nice grass area.Hmm Wonder if that property belongs to the BNRR since it is so close to the RR tracks, maybe that's who should be notified, just a thought.

Seaview Ave stops at 34th. Did you mean Shilshole? http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=47.669217,-122.398467&spn=0.007167,0.019226&z=16

actually they're on both sides of 24th now. there are some just east of the ballard bridge (near the diving institute). there are also camps right behind stone gardens (just east of locks, near RR tracks) as well as along the new extension of burke-gilman trail, right past where it crosses seaview or shilshole (near golden gardens).
this last one seems the most sketchy. that portion or trail is pretty desolate and kind of creepy when you see a couple bums emerge from the woods.
I'm pretty sure the last one is on railroad property btw.Posted 7 months ago # -
sorry....I was speaking about the tents (2 today) on Shilshole Ave NW, close to 24th AVE NW (by the old Yankee Diner)

I did mean Seaview, not Shilshole. But it's interesting (disturbing?) that there appear to be even more tents than the ones that are so visible near Yankee Diner. So if they are on railroad property, is that allowed?

I'm sure they are not allowed. I was always under the impression that the Burlington Northern Security were more diligent about such things than were the SPD. I see them patrolling the area around the train bridge quite a bit. Maybe if the encampments seem harmless enough, they decide to let them be?
btw, I miss the Yankee Diner. good place to go with big groups--especially kids.
are they still building a hotel on that parcel? seems like a pretty sweet spot, real-estate wise. sad to see it sitting vacant (maybe sadder to see it not vacant with those that have moved in and around).
I used to love watching the fireworks on the adjacent pier. good view of gasworks and space needle shows from one vantage point!Posted 7 months ago # -
Officer Haag, SPD, emailed me today to say he has contacted one of the groups using one of the large camping tents on the 5400 block of Shilshole AVE NW, he has given them 48 hours to move the tents and stated he would follow up to be sure they do move (It will be interesting to see where the tents will appear next)I'm happy to know that the SPD web site "contact us" really does get a response. I now have the site bookmarked for quick and easy access:)
