    Hey kids.

I'm looking to buy our wedding bands, and want recycled gold. Specifically looking for plain band, white gold, no curly twirly stuff or stones. Know anyone local? I'd rather start there before I go online.

    Gracias!

  2. Tim Lambertni at the Ballard Farmers market deals in Eco or recycled gold. Look for a big Asian style umbrella and pro looking jewelry display case. Sometimes over by the pizza oven. He did my engagement ring and I love it!

What???? As opposed to fresh gold? LOL

ALL gold in the world today is recycled its not like they make fresh each day or even dig it up each day.

This HAS to be a joke. No one is dumb enough to pay premium for this laughable sales gimic.

It REALLY is funny. What do you think jewelers do with the gold they are buying? Eat it?

Exactly how old do you want your gold to be? Maybe stolen from the dead fingers of a Mayan? Mined by slaves in South Africa? Do tell us the exact origin of what you end up buying. : )

I was curious about this so did a little research and came up with the following from a couple sources:

    -----
It is true that discarded precious metals are carefully captured and recycled because of their value, so gold that you use today may actually have been used throughout the history of mankind. It’s very hard, however, to find refineries which use only recycled gold. Most will feed freshly mined stock in as needed, and some deal exclusively in freshly mined gold.

Every time a refinery makes a purchase of freshly mined gold, there is an incentive for some company to continue ravaging the environment to provide that gold. By ensuring that our gold is entirely sourced from recycled metals, we ensure that we have not contributed to that vicious cycle.

In 2007 the United States produced approximately 240 tons of gold, making it the fourth-largest gold-producing nation, behind Australia, South Africa, and China. Most gold produced today in the US comes from large open-pit heap leach mines in the state of Nevada. The US is a net exporter of gold.
    --------

Good luck in finding those special wedding sets, biophile87.

Well, I guess we all have the foot-in-mouth disease at one time or another, but I do think life can be challenging enough without all the added bitterness.

My GOD there is a sucker born every minute.

Note to self: REALLY find some way to cash in on these green suckers.

Alonzo name one refinery that uses only fresh gold and prove this please. Gee let me guess who might benefit from such an absurd lie. : ) Alonzo it is simply not true.

This has GOTTA be a joke. Like the crying over manatees MUST be doug11 right? No one is that dumb.

  12. Seems to be along the same line as sourcing a diamond or other stone from a place that gets them ethically, and not 12 year olds in mines in Africa. Since you're the doubter here BR, why don't you support your own opinion by proving such mines don't exist? The burden of proof is on you with the dissenting opinion, not Alonzo

Went to the Ballard market today. Tim was lovely, and Anthony in the little nook had great stuff too. Both use Hoover & Strong Harmony metals. Turns out Fiance has "design ideas", so no decisions were made today. Time is getting short, though.

Price of gold is going up, so I think we may go with palladium instead. Visiting the jewelers has opened a whole new world to me. I had no idea what was involved in making some of their pieces. It was fascinating. I thought a ring was just a ring.

My main concern is that I will lose it. I'm always getting dirty, I'm often up to my knees in a stream or a river, or I'm sticking my hands into places that are prone to injure me. I have lost rings before, and it would suck if I lost my brand new wedding ring a month into my marriage. I guess that's just part of the adventure!

biophile- you could always go vintaqe/antique. I got both my wedding ring and engagement ring via antique malls - while you don't get the design aspect necessarily, you are technically "recycling" - lots of beautiful beautiful stuff out there - got my engagement ring in Edmonds and my band at Pacific Galleries in downtown Seattle (where we had our first date, so it brought everything full circle in hoky fashion ;)

PG- I wouldn't wear one if I could avoid it, but it's meaningful to my honey, so I'll do my best with this one till I can't.

crownhiller, thanks for the tip. I always think antique stuff is more baroque. Would I find plain bands there? Don't know if we'll wind up with a set at this point. He likes more ornate stuff, a piece of yarn would do for me.

Biophile, check out Alana in Northgate Mall for antiques. And a friend just got a beautiful ring set custom made at Green Lake Jewelry Works http://www.greenlakejewelry.com/. I believe they offer recycled gold. ;)
