The Scoop at Walter's on 32nd and 64th has FABULOUS ice cream. A big old scoop will cost almost $4, but sooo worth it. Now if I could just find a place with really good fish tacos...

mmmmm. meaty goodness. Steakhouse gets my vote! Aged Rib-Eye anyone?
I have to say, I'm still not lovin' the Thai I've had so far (Thai Siam, Thaiku) and Monkey Bridge is good, but not exactly what I want for Vietnamese - their Spring Rolls (the call em egg rolls) suck and Tran Bros' Pho is like muddy water.
More Suggestions welcome.....

For good Thai don't forget Thai Cafe on 20th behind Epilogue Books. Is my favorite and is a Mom & Pop business. I love it when I call in an order in the evening and Grandma takes my order telling me I make it 2 stars for you. She's always right - lol

I'm disgusted...bollard gossip gurl's closest to the mark.
We need:
A couple low-rent jumble stores that sell old stuff without 5000 % mark-ups.
More food like all-u-can-scarf&barf "jolly Troll"Smorgasbord-like slummy eateries.
RealDiners(c)
24-hour greasy spoons and their ilk.
More shabby marginals.
Missions.
Another Nickels-Ville.
Angry vendors of joe-ish coffee-mud & roast rat-on-a-stick(c){Tm.}

What Ballard really needs is a fight club. We should start one. It will not have wi/fi or sell coffee.

A whiner's club seems more appropriate. I don't see many fighters around these parts.

We need some love for our senior citizens. I worry about the older long lived neighbors who are "stuck" with a fixed income as our taxes, heating oil, electricity, sewer/water, telephone, medical expenses and insurance, you name it, go up and up and up, each year. And of course this group of our population gets hit hard with various cuts to their services, which in many cases are a life line. How or what can we all do as Ballard's people, as neighbors, to help our esteemed older citizens? I wish I had the answer, I have the heart and the time, but I wish there were say....a bulletin board where the folks who need could simply post the need and ask a neighbor for help with that need. Whatever it is, from a ride to the grocery store once a week or joining them for a much needed walk about the neighborhood several times a week for both company and security. Some folks can be a bit worried or even scared to venture out alone especially if there is diminished sight and balance. How wonderful it would be to be the lucky person who gets to spend an hour or so every few days, listening to the interesting memories or views from a person who has lived a long time and seen many things, especially the changes our Ballard has undergone. My dogs would love the company too. There was a lady who came down almost daily from 65th to 63rd where I live and slowly make her way with her walking cane to admire my little raised garden bed. I would come out and we would spend some great quality time, just talking, and my 8 year old son (then) would join us, and the dogs. She really loved the little dogs I have, she had lost her pet not long before this. She had a special touch with "Murphy the Mouth" my male chihuahua who has a problem with humans, he is afraid so he barks and acts fierce when he really just wants to love you. It takes most people months to get through Murphy's defenses and relax. But he loved Patty. He just melted and got all wiggly. It was great. I so loved the time we spent and often looked up the street to see if she was a'coming down. I was pretty sad the day she told us she was going to move back to her old community in Lake Chelan. I have been thinking for quite some time about having a pet food drive for our local seniors. I know this is a difficult time for many of us, my family too....But we have various dog food items that we have received as samples and other food that I bought and the 3 amigos (chihuahuas) would not eat it. This is good stuff, high quality food, mostly from Mudd Bay. I have too many dog sweaters that I have collected over the last few years. But how would I get other's interested, and how and where would I bring the donations. I thought about contacting the Greenwood Senior Center or the food bank. But I have not. I will put some more effort into thinking this through. I am worried about my senior neighbors who have no place to tighten the budget. Who are at the end of the money before they even get to buying food for themselves. I believe my senior Ballard neighbors would in fact go without eating or only eat a small amount so that they could buy their pet some food. We love our animal friends so much. And they are so very important when you have few friends or outside contacts left. I want to help and I want to try to help as many seniors who need pet food as I can. I think we could as a group in Ballard pull off a really decent and needed support thing by doing this. I just wish I could figure it all out. I would be happy to hear any ideas or thoughts about a Senior Pet Food Drive. I would be happy to put my strong back and my pickup truck to use. I think it would be a great holiday family thing to do with our kids. Maybe decide upon a date and in our block area the local kids who want to help could bring out the wagons and pick up donated pet food and bring it back to a location for organization and or loading. There could be donations of good shape pet coats for pets that are cold or older and need them. There could even be specific requests for special needed items. Boy, I really want to do this. Anyone want to help me figure this out? I work graveyards so I am about the house during the day. Thanks a bunch. Shoot me a note with your ideas or if you would help too. I live at 9th and 63rd and I do have a basement and shop with some room. Where to begin is the question. Tree at ethington@q.com

Hi Seattletree!
When my mother was up here I got her involved in some of the senior activity centers. There is one in Ballard
http://inballard.com/detail.php?id=ballardnorthwestseniorcenter
You might check them out and see if they have a bulletin board or some other information for you. I think your idea to create a support community is a great idea and often seniors can trade their special talents and love being helpful to one another as well.If you do decide to take donations I would be happy to supply a drop off in the salon.
I used to say if you want something from the Universe, ask the Universe....but now I say..."Ask Craigslist" Ask for even more donations if you want, by placing a "post" on there. You are in the spirit of Thanksgiving!
Pass it around!

A solid chicken joint and a midget wrestling arena/stadium...next door to each other. we'll fund both with the hotel tax, f### b-ball

We need a really good butcher. More bookstores and other community hangouts would be fantastic too. And for crying out loud, give us some decent bagels!

Cracker Barrel.

I'll agree with a real diner, something Denny's was not.
Not a Red Robin.
A Korean place.
A steakhouse would be great.
A men's boutique with modern clothing that won't attempt to clear my bank account with a few purchases.

Something open later than 10pm that is not a bar/fast-food chain.

A hotel, even something as plain-jane as a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. I've got no place to send guests when the house is full.

How about a tribal casino and hotel?

Since Ballard is very pro-community and pro-artwalk I'd love to see a good art supply store here. I've only been living in the neighborhood a few months (moved here after the closure of Sunset...sadly) and love it so far. But, as an amateur artist, I am a little frustrated at not being able to find any art supplies in an area that seems to want to promote the arts. On one of the recent snow days when I didn't have to go to work I thought "oh, I'll just go grab some paint and brushes and stay in and get create something". I didn't quite make it to a store due to the roads, but went and stocked up a few days later at A&C in the U-District.
