Went to check out the new consignment store on 15th and 77th, and Los Rubbish is anything but trashy! Leslie, the owner, was very nice and friendly, taking the time to greet everyone and introduce herself. The store is larger than it looks at first, with a back room past the register. It's a bit chaotic right now, not a real "system" of how things are organized, but she's just opened up and for those of us who like to hunt for bargains, it just makes it that much more of a fun challenge!
I tried on a very cute denim pencil skirt, high waist with buttons on the front, new-retro, loved it but opted to go for a lovely black straw hat with a small brim and bow on the side, and a pair of black retro style heels with a strap across the arch... $20 for the shoes, and $24 on the new hat. She'd purchased it and didn't like how it looked on, so it hadn't even been worn. She knocked a few bucks off of each and may give discounts if you buy multiple items, depending on if they're consigned or not.
The inventory was mostly funky 40's-80's styles, sort of randomly arranged. Men's and Woman's fashions (mostly women's currently) and I believe she will be adding children's soon. There was a fantastic red polyester jumpsuit there that would have been perfect for the 70's party... or any other day you're feeling a little groovy! Some fun shoes, purses, and other accessories for reasonable prices could help bring a little life into your wardrobe for very reasonable prices.
She gives a 45% split instead of the usual 40% when consigning things which is nice, and is looking for things now, so no three month wait like many other established places seem to have right now. She's got some nice winter coats that might be going on sale to make room for summer stuff, so check back there often to get a great deal on one. I told her about MyBallard and so keep an eye out as she might be posting info on sales and the like in the classifieds section.
Worth checking out... I think there will be some fun summer finds to get there, especially if your taste goes to the funky/retro/vintage/eclectic. If you purchase something she may ask to take a photo of you for her wall, so make sure to powder your nose before you go because odds are you'll find SOMETHING you like if you look long enough!
