those are cool pictures- i saw some moon snail "sand collars" a couple weeks ago while loading kayaks at low tide- i thought they were old tires or some other kind of litter and was greatly dismayed- i feel better (and smarter) to now know they are really living creatures (and somewhat relieved that i didn't have the gumption to try and clean up the beach we were on). thanks!

I just sent these links in, but I'm much happier about sharing them here! :)

I didn't manage to leave the house at all this weekend, which I am greatly sad about, since I've been trying to make it a habit to visit a new beach with every low tide. Maybe next time!

LovrienS - yours are truly inspired! I can tell that you are an artist!
BTW - I bought a photo from a man who was selling his HDR work at the Seafood Fest. It was roughly 10" by 12" and of the Hotel Governor. I really like it! Wish I had more wall space. I would absolutely love to buy some tilt-shift photography as well.

when is the next good one to happen?

Aw garsh, you guys are sweet. :)
I'm using a really simply setup: Nikon D40 with a Nikkor 35mm AFS 1.8 lens. It lets in lots of light and detail, and is great for everyday photography.
I'm looking at the tide charts now, and it doesn't look we'll have a significantly low tide (below -2.0) until August 8-10th. I'll be sure to be out, and will probably try my luck at one of the beaches down South this time. :)

Tomorrow's almost a -2. I'm going to hit it.

Here's a map to the beach where my starfish pics came from.
You need a really low tide to see the starfish. They are on the middle pilings that extend out into the water and support the apartments to the north of the little beach. The starfish were just above the water, so if the tide isn't really low, you won't see them. They like the shade, which is why they are on the center-most piers.
Good luck! Post pics!
