@Cate
We really like the Beef Brisket Sandwich with the XXX or Jamaican Jerk sauce. For the address and menu, refer to the following link:

HOT DOGS!!!!!

Gabe puts a lot of hard work and love into his food. We were walking by last night around 11 and he was out back at the smoker, he said he still had 2 hours left until the meat would be done enough to take off. Seriously, he was waiting around until 1:00 am.
Mmmm... I also really like the spicy macaroni salad.

Is everything spicy or is some of it sweet BBQ? My delicate palate and all that....

Ditto Owls.

I can't eat anything spicier than macaroni and cheese. What's a girl to eat at these places??

Sunrise, I don't know about this place, but I can say that Roro BBQ in Wallingford on Stone Way has a sweet sauce that is suitable for a three year old...perfect for me! :)

Thanks for the reminder to go back to this place, kohi! I think their food is really delicious. I've had the pulled pork sandwich and the beef brisket sandwich, both ordered with the Kansas City BBQ sauce. Very delicious and the sauce was sweet and definitely not too spicy--and I'm for sure a spicy-food wimp. Also, even though I'm not usually a fan of most potato salads because there's often way too much mayo, their potato salad was scrumptious.

The gumbo is pretty good too.

Yes, Gabriel's Fire is great. Just ate here on Saturday, and it was great. The service was awesome as well

I gave him a try and had the pulled pork sandwich. It was fairly flavorless and tasted like it was roasted in the oven w/o smoke. Served on a hot dog type bun which IMO is pretty weak. May give him another try but think other options are better.

twintown -- how would you rate it against Pecos Pit down on 1st South near Starbucks? That place the Mendoza line for passable BBQ ...

Based on the pulled pork sandwich, Pecos Pit wins hands down. Much more flavorful and a very generous portion. Smokin' Pete's is better than Gabriels IMO - better smoke flavor, better sandwich buns and good ribs. Pete's fails with their sides and the pulled pork meat can sometimes be a bit fatty. Never heard of Mendoza.

As I am desperate for REAL BBQ I may give Gabriels Fire a chance. It will have to past my test which is I need to be able to smell it 2 blocks away else it ain't BBQ. Proof ...see that Petes place ..you can stand in the place and not smell smoke. They don't cook the meat long enough ( not even close ). Right now my only BBQ place is in my backyard....no less than 6 hours of solid smoke for ribs. 10 plus for Brisket.

If you like hot and spicy their spicy sauce packs a wallop. Gets painful after a while, they don't mess around. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but so far the best I've had in Seattle (been here just under 2 years). I've had good meals and the owner is a good guy- I like to give him my business. I've given Smokin Petes a couple tries and I won't go back... very bland for bbq and I don't think the meat was high quality.

Oh...just saw the comment about not spicy......uggh, might be a waste of time after all.

There are about 10 sauces to choose from for every dish, so those who like spicy can get spicy, those who like sweet can get sweet. And so on and so forth. I think the key is finding the sauce that you like the best. The meat is definitely cooked for a long time, see my earlier post. If you tell the server what flavors you prefer, they can recommend the best sauce. But it still may take a few tries. He also has started brewing his own beer which is quite good.

Well that sounds good. I will say the test of true bbq is it should need no sauce. It should fall off the bone but not be dry. You should barely need to chew brisket it should literally melt. Sauces are all a bonus. I'll give them a try sometime soon.

I like Gabriel's very much. Notice the crust and the red smoke ring. You get that from long slow cooking and smoke. He cares about the food. He's skilled and restrained with the flavors. The ribs are my favorite. I asked for my "pulled pork" in a hunk. It's less likely to get dry that way. Brisket is usually good, but can be occasionally dry. Not crazy about the chicken. I would call Gabriel's a Texas style 'cue with a Seattle accent.
A note about barbecue and dryness: A good barbecue place cooks their meat in shifts. The moistness and other qualities of the meat will vary depending on what time of day you buy it. Kind of like baked goods, there's a peak time to eat it. A place like Casper's sells a consistent, but mediocre product. Hit Gabriel's at the right time and it's heavenly.
@michp: Gabriel's does not need sauce. His sauces are good, but they cover the good taste of the meat and spice rub. I eat the 'cue plain and save the sauces for cooking at home.

Nice pics...and helpful. I think they still need a little more cooking. Do those bones nearly pull out? Bottom line is this place may be ok or even good...but Seattle has no great BBQ! :(

michp, No the bones do not nearly pull out. When in Seattle, I am quite satisfied to eat Gabriel's ribs. If I REALLY need good ribs, I will drive 2,200 miles down to Lockhart TX.
