It's actually on the 22nd, but, hey, time to say farewell to sommer, hoist a few, give thanks for the harvest and send up a prayer for a good snow year!

Like last spring, Golden Gardens, 5ish, bring something for yourself and a little for others, bring your own spoons and bowls, would be great if someone can arrive early to secure a shelter and a fire pit, but if not, no big deal. I'll bring my little grill.

    Time to meet face-to-face again.

  2. October seems so far away... but I guess it's just about 5 weeks, isn't it? I look forward to it, JP. Will you be doing a walnut-cracking seminar? ;)

Time moves quickly this time o' year.

We also planned the spring event several weeks in advance. I recall enjoying that very much.

I encourage everyone to join in, especially those whom we only know from their online personae. I will offer them both an open hand and an open beverage.

Fun! I missed the last one, due to having family in town, but look forward to this one! :) I'll have to check with the pugs schedules, but hopefully they can make it too! :)

Dogs are okay, right? As long as they are leashed, are not accompanied by strollers, do not poo and I bring water to wash down their pee (if they do something as awfully rude as that in Ballard)? ;)

i see someone anonotagged this already. i'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but dogs aren't allowed on the beach. a big puppy convention might draw attention and it would suck if you were asked to leave. just a thought, not a condemnation. :)

    shallow.end...

They aren't allowed on the beach, but they are fine leashed in the grassy area, which is where people would meet up. (I think.)

thanks, shallow.end. I thought that was the case, even though many people choose to disregard. A large group with lots of dogs would certainly draw unwanted attention. I recall a police presence there at the spring event and would not want to get shut down. Can we plan another event with the dogs - somewhere friendly to them?

    Edited to add:

Dogs are not allowed on the beach or playground.
    (SMC 18.12.080)

Dogs are allowed on leash in other parts of the park, and off-leash in the Off-Leash Area. (SMC 18.12.080)

I'm still wondering what happened to June...now you're sayin' its almost October. You are correct JSP...October 1st will be here before we know it...time of year I miss Vermont the most. Anyway, sure...sounds cool. (pun, as it turns out, is intended) Cool in every sense of the word. I shall dress accordingly, as should we all. Gets pretty chilly down there at the water at night...especially in October. Burrrrrrrrr.

Pennygirl - our posts passed in the night, so we are pretty much saying the same thing, except the doggies aren't allowed in the fire pit areas where many gathered after dark.

Just for the record, I am well aware of the no beach rule. I didn't really hang out on the sand that much last time because of the amount of smoke from the bonfire. *hack, hack* We'll just hang up by the pick-i-nick tables. I am sure Bennettini will prefer being by all the food fixins, anyway. ;)

I'm so excited. I just found out I'm likely getting the ax by my employer. That means I'll probably have the free time to meet up with y'all. I hear I might even get some severance pay so I'll be able to afford to contribute something cool to the festival. Look forward to seeing everyone.

Oh, and if anyone has a job available paying $100K+ with excellent benefits that allows me to pretend like I'm actually working when I'm really sitting home posting on the local forum, well looks like I'm on the market.

Streaker -- careful, there may be open flames (I mean fire, not guys wearing pink dresses).

julesage -- thanks for the support. Look forward to meeting up.

iPlod -- I don't have the circus tent, but as I age I just get fatter & fatter; perhaps one of my cheesey Hawaiian shirts would do the trick nowadays.

    Posted 2 years ago #
  53. Soup would be good. Chili too.

Having never been to a bonfire event, here is my naive question: Can we use the bonfire to heat up food safely?

Or... does anyone have a thermal container for chili?

SmartsyArtsy - you won't be able to use the bonfire for that, but there is at least one barbecue under the shelter.

    Posted 2 years ago #
  55. Thanks AN. I'll figure something out.

Riding on the bus today I had a great idea. We can do Saggar Firing in the bonfire! It would be an experiment because we'll not know the temperature range of the fire. However, it will be fun and exciting. I'll msg you with more info.
