I saw the flash, backed away from my computer, and waited for it. Impressive!

Wow....it sure was a big one! A flash lit up the room and for a second or so, I wondered if it was lightening or not...but once the loud and long rumble started... I had no doubt.
T'was on the computer listening to actor Jonathan Pryce as he started reading Ted Hughes "Last Letter" about Syliva Plaths suicide. Gave me a bit of the willies.

ballardgirl - I was praying at the time and He was warning us about sending Patty back for a fourth term. Diversity (even of thought) is a good thing right?

I just heard that lightning struck the large Lock last night, so I assume it was the same strike.
I thought I'd heard distant thunderclaps out over Puget Sound about 10 minutes before the big one happened, but I wasn't expecting to hear (and feel) one right over my head. That was one hell of a boom.

Wow, I didn't hear anything at all. Weird.

Man that was loud! I thought for sure my son was going to wake up but he was fast asleep. I on the other hand shot right out of bed! Big time!

Holy Valhala! That was huge! The cats were still under the covers with me this morning.

I had fallen asleep early when I heard the thunder. It sounded like a large garbage dumpster racing down a street and into my place. I jumped up and raced to the window fully expecting to see something catastrophic like a small plane on my vehicle. Definitely scared the crap outta me, adrenaline was going gangbusters.

Doggo is not gunshy, but that woke her up out of her sleep, and sent her looking around the house for trouble!

My dog and I were lounging and we sat upright in unison. I kept waiting for the next one. Very weird to have just one.
As for the locks, I heard that the big locks are closed for repair; small one is open.

Gnomina and I were just settling back into the sofa after a short round with Mr Q. A beautiful dry moment, perfect for a walk.
Back in the house all was quiet and warm,,, then a flash from everywhere/nowhere, a really big click and then a smallish buzz. My first thought was that old push button light switch at the bottom of the stairway is failing!!!! Nope, there goes the rumble and the cat trying to find refuge in a place where there aren't any monsters.
That was close!!!Posted 2 years ago # -
I didn't hear it (being up in the scary land North of 85th) but the dogs started burrowing under my pillow at some point. All three of them. And that's how we slept. Or at least they did. I have a crick in my neck :-(

Sorry, my bad... I'll heed the owners manual from now on and not fire up the FTL drive while still in atmosphere.
BTW, Rigel 6 is lovely this time of year.Posted 2 years ago # -
On a side note, the electric company I worked for back in 1974 successfully bid to steam clean, bake dry & re-varnish the windings on the giant motors that drive the lock pumps.
But! The old time 60+ year old cotton insulation on the windings disintegrated like an ancient mummy as soon as the steam touched them.
Needless to say, a complete rewind was necessary & since I had to research & purchase the materials, gathering all the data from the motor nameplate was the first step.
The whole point of all this blah blah is, the date on the nameplate was 1910 & the brand was Edison Electric. They were antiques even back then.
If the same motors are there now, they're 100 years old. Don't know if they've been re-wound or replaced since.

Seriously, how did I not hear this? I live on 73rd and 15th... anyone else hear it in our neck of the woods? A coworker was amazed that I didn't hear it and she lives on Capitol Hill. Are my windows really thick or something, the pugs didn't act up at all last night... crazy...

briana-n-pugs, I live at 77th and 15th, and I sure heard it here!
