I am watching this as it happens. I am in awe of both the miners who have been trapped for over two months and the people that are volunteering to go down there to help with the rescue not knowing what will happen for sure. The resilience of the human spirit is amazing. So far so good.

Pretty mind boggling, and wonderous all at the same time.

Terrifying to me. I'm a clausto. I don't know what is worse, the underground cave or the tube that takes 20 minutes.

The tube. Seriously that would be insane.

An American team drilled that rescue hole. America's decent relations with Chile allowed this to happen.
The mining industry is the same worldwide, the only differences being the working conditions and management structure for each nation.
If politics weren't an impediment, this team would be the best hope for saving trapped miners worldwide.

I guess the tube is a small price to pay for seeing their families again - that is pure joy on 2nd guy's face, that's for sure :)

Just watched some of the rescue - that chamber is like my nightmare - I would have to be so heavily sedated before they could get me into that thing (but then again these are miners so probably not claustrophobic). Truly amazing story.

    Cate...

Seriously. That Tube is my worst nightmare. Even the idea of getting into the Tube freaks me out. I would have to be extremely sedated for the entire 15 minutes.

Just stopped by a friend's to pick up my dog after a long day away. Glad i did, as no CNN in this house, so got to watch #2, 3, and 4 come up. Just incredible! I feel as though I've been holding my breath for the miners for some time. The combination of the use of technology, human ingenuity, problem solving by a multinational team is such an example of how things can be done. And the courage of the four rescuers who went down into that mine - I have such admiration.
As to the claustrophobia - none of them would be miners if that were an ongoing problem for them. I suspect we can actually not relate to their experience, as they have such different live experience than we do.
I am just so glad for the miners rescued, and will be even happier when they are all back up. Then they get to begin to deal with a totally new life.

Sorry guys, I work nights. Just got home and read this.

Who in the Hell cares who drilled the hole. They are getting them out of there. NASA went and helped. Several other nations helped along with everyone else.

I like how this is working out.

What an emotional time for everyone, watching this rescue operation unfold. It's gonna be a multi-tissue day today. Bless the miners, their families and all the people helping with the rescue effort. Happy tears!

Channel 29 is broadcasting the rescue with coverage in Spanish and in more detail than U.S. broadcasts. Wonderful to have some happy news for a change!!

This rescue and the fact that those people have been down there for 3 months definatley shows us that there, indeed, is a *higher power* out there other than us. Moments in life like these are reason to celebrate life itself.

Cris: thx for the music! ;)

Awesome. Truly. I've been watching on 29 too, Gordy. It's the only constant coverage I've found on basic. So, hey, maybe I'll learn a little Spanish! :-)

Watching it on line via cnn. (I dont have a tv) # 19 just got out of the capsule. A lot of great engineering went into getting them out and I'm very happy about the outcome of this event.

I watched #14 or 15 early this morning - the look on his little boy's face was..beyond words. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be on either side of the scenario - the trapped or the waiting. As close to a miraculous situation as I've seen in quite sometime.

I bawled my eyes out every time a miner came out. I cheered along, and wished I knew the words to sing along with them! Made me so incredibly happy watching it happen.
