For those thinking of going downtown or already downtown, the bus situation down there sounds pretty hosed. They are bad enough that the Other Half has started walking home from Qwest field. Yeah, it's that bad.

Gosh...I know...hubby tried to catch a bus from downtown to home, and waited for over an over for the 18x. Has been on since 5 and they haven't even reached Denny yet....

it's not just the buses, it's gridlock. my friend left downtown at 3:30 and got home at 5 just because it was stop and go.
gotta love working from home!

My hubby got off the bus in the bus tunnel after 5:20, walked to REI, got proper gear (particularly boots and socks), and is walking home to Crown Hill. I feel fortunate that we're able to afford a spontaneous purchase like that.

Excellent call. You are also fortunate that you live fairly close (as opposed to those working on the (l)eastside or Kent) and he is a hale and hearty guy who is up for the walk. More than once I've made the hike between Sunset Hill and downtown for work. Feet are reliable.

My hubby last checked in over an hour ago. He finally was on a 44 after waiting outside for 35 minutes or so...he's not answering his phone or texts so that must mean he's walking in this stuff.

Great that it's REI sale week!
Hubby works in Bellevue - left there at 4pm, he got a bus to down town (because it came before a bus that might have taken him to his car at the NG transit center. He figured a bus to Seattle is one lake closer to home, so he got on. All of this is after a nearly 3 hour commute TO work this am.
I have hot toddy fixings ready for when he gets home. And I have his favorite soup here too. I still need to walk to my work and check on the building to make sure all is well for the evening.

phew...hubby made it! commute home from beginning to end took two hours from the
U-District. 46th/Market down the hill has cars and buses scattered and stuck.
It's the ice on the road which is the problem.Posted 2 years ago # -
My wife caught the 5-express near the Cinerama at 4:30... it is now 6:52 and she may have gotten past the light at Mercer.

Left work at 4:45 from Elliot and w. thomas (near the elliott/western ave split that goes up to Denny) Walked home (with a short whiskey shot stop at Mikes Chili Parlor) Got home at 6:15. In the time between work and Mikes, not one local bus (either 15 or 18) passed me. 1 express 18 passed me.
4.1 miles of walking 27 degree weather. I'm thankful I wore the wool socks this morning.Posted 2 years ago # -

Just heard a report that a metro bus w/chains trying to head up Pine just slid backwards from 15th to 14th and into another bus. Gonna be a rough 48 hours.
Posted 2 years ago # -
ouch ! got to admire Metro for trying...I think.
Agree with you streaker..it's gonna be a tough one
....and to think Winter still hasn't officially begun.

The next question is. Do I even attempt to wait for a bus in the morning. Or do I hoof it back the 4.1 miles back to work? Oh my.. I knew i needed to start getting more exercise. Certainly didnt expect to get it walking to and from work.

Catherine ! Let us know when he makes it !
Sure hope everyone makes it home ok.
SEdholm...glad you made it. I walked to the store and back for milk and those
few minutes were unbelievably cold. Every time I inhaled I breathed in snow!
I cannot image what you all have gone through today. And Reba walked over 4 miles
in this too?Posted 2 years ago # -

My friend and co-worker left our office at 3:30 yesterday ... caught her first bus to downtown, no problem. The bus taking her to Federal Way - a whole other story. Had a text from her at 2:15 a.m. - she was just getting home. Whoa...and I thought my three hour commute was ridiculous.

I left work downtown a little before 4pm yesterday- waited half an hour for the 18 and when it finally came it was so full that the driver couldn't even close the doors (people kept getting on!) I finally gave up and walked back up to 3rd and caught the 28 Express figuring I'd just walk from Market and 8th. Nope! It took an hour to get out of downtown, then got stuck at the top of 46th and Phinney and the driver had to kick everyone off to walk. Luckily my "work clothes" consisted of fleece leggings and big wool socks under my boots! The hill was an absolute DISASTER, and I can't believe anyone was trying to drive it. There was a 44 still trying to slide its way down but it kept slipping sideways into the curb. I had to tell people at the bus stops at the bottom of the hill that they were SOL.
Up early this morning trying to figure out if the 17 or 18 are worth trying to grab going to work. I'm down on the flat right off Leary but if the buses are still getting stuck it's not worth it! Still too early to call in and find out if the office is even open today.

Some #17 buses definitely are heading into town, at least right now.
