Thank you for the link! Interesting. Now if we just all go stand on Queen Anne and blow, at the same time,, perhaps we could see some of it?

    Heardonthe44,

You seemed far too young to remember the previous one?

    <grin>

    Thanks for telling us!!!

Malia!!! Will join you for the cloud rerouting event. Perhaps it should be an official MB event?

Yes, 456 years ago is a rather long time...very vague memories indeed...LOL !

Looks like Hawaii will have a good look at it. My Ballard Field Trip, Hawaii !

ohohohoh lets all go to Hawaii to watch! Now who has the frequent flyer miles to fund this field trip?
dsomers - I am afraid I get such impulses - blowing to move clouds, and they just don't seem to help much! Pity

Malia....we just need a bigger crowd! If we pick those of us (me included!) with the longest posts I think we can develop gale force winds!! Clouds won't stand a chance!

I like your entrance criterion! That alone could be quite amusing. And do we have a category for capacity to generate hot air?

My heavens...I leave for awhile and what's this, Disomers is running off to pick pineapples with Malia. If I had the money I'd be right there with ya! Ma-halo.

ba-bump, tonight is the night! Begins at 9:29 and peaks around midnight. It will be cloudy, but if you get lucky there will be a break in the clouds enough to see that ole ball of rock and ice.

I saw the fullish moon rise tonight on my way home from work. I am hoping it stays clear enough to see...it just may be !

still visible full moon almost due east with about four hours until the show begins.

it's a very fuzzy moon with the thin clouds which might make it look particularly ominous. looks like a crisp moon with my glasses off actually.

anyone remember the one we had several years ago on halloween? it was very orange when the moon entered the umbra. not to be confused with the penumbra, of course.

great idea...your avatar is penumbra ?

anywhooo...NASA link shows nothing but a brown out and tweets flying by at the speed of light.

I was just out on my balcony and the moon is looking pretty darn bright and clear.....

no hot44, my avatar is actually uranus (seriously :)

it does look increasingly clear. the clouds are moving from the southwest and I can see several stars in that direction.

we should be able to see the penumbral shadow appearing around 10:13 or so. only 45 more minutes!

thanks for the great links btw!

gi - I remember the last one Aug 28 2007. It was a clear night and I walked down to the Old Town with some friends, it was a wonderful sight and a little spooky! It almost felt like something apocalyptic was about to happen.

FYI here is a list of all the lunar eclipses:

    it does look promising!

good link vb--the one I was recollecting was on October 28, 2004. I remember my sister was visiting and we could see it quite readily (and a bit earlier in the evening I think).

couldn't see orion (or any stars!) on last peek outside, but that fuzzy ol' moon is beckoning.

oh c'mon stopgo--you love it. if it weren't for this thread, you'd be wondering if the moon turned into a pineapple.

gi - HO44- you are welcome. It looks like I might have to drag out my 90mm scope and bundle up for a look at the red moon. The darn LED street lights are making star gazing a problem! Those lights are bright!

it's gotten a bit hazier, but you can see a little darkening (the penumbra) at the bottom left side of the moon.

....but if I wait a few minutes....it all could clear

It's far away, and small, but pretty cool. I like eclipses.*

*I really liked the one last summer at 3 AM. Full eclipse, open skies.

Streaker would have to break out a tripod to get a decent shot, not really feeling up to it tonight. Maybe if he'd thought ahead and rented a beefy 500mm or 600mm lens it'd be a different story. Wait, of course it'd be a different story!

    OH WOW

I have never seen anything like that before, ever. There was a break at the perfect time for a few minutes. No clouds, full eclipse and the moon was weirdly 3-D orangeish brown. Really awesome feeling. I wasn't alone...I could hear but not see others "howling" and "whootin" in the 'hood.

Amazing! The whole sky was orange. Can't see it now -- hopefully the clouds will part in a bit to see a little of the other side.

Yeah, got nothing. Eclipses deliver what they promise. So when this is over, is Hasselbeck still quarterback?

Carol said Hasselbeck is starting, until he throws another interception or 3. But let us not turn the thread into football.
