If you are really seeking info, I try not to think of other people as problems to be solved, as hard as that might be with some. And the moonbeam thing sounds like some sort of trick science question. :)

With Maria you need to be kind but firm. Give support to good behavior and consistently don't stand for nonsense. Even if it seems funny don't giggle at bad behavior.

And moonbeams are surprisingly heavy. You'd think curls with free weights would help strengthen your grip on them, but really it all start with your core -- pilates with a Swiss ball is the way to go.

Maybe they chould subtitle this movie "how do you keep them down at the convent after they've seen Vienna". Always hated the snarky Baroness :)

Hate to break it to you PG but using smilies to convey that you are not being serious is so 1999; people ignore the smilies now. Speaking of ze Germans,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru2uixqA7Fk (mature language present)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oK_trZhVdk (see above warning)

As for Maria, you download the source and compile it yourself. Goddamned precompiled binaries...

Well, that makes sense, Wolfie...I'm always about 10+ years behind everyone else! But since you have alerted me to this fact, My New Year's Resolution (starting now) will be to lay off the smilies. I suppose you'll just have to guess as to whether I'm being serious or not...good luck with that!

Lemme rephrase: People ignore the smilies when it suits them. The tongue in cheek had some mileage until recently but imo that's on its way out as well. There were smilies and then those were replaced by gifs, then lolcatz made it to the scene. For a while there, there was calm as potentially provocative threads were tempered by kitty pics. Then giant ASCII pictures took their place. It's a losing war when and where the only certainty is that people have the potential to be d-bags.

    /step off soapbox.

No worries there Streaker. There's a little loophole in my original statement - 'New Year's Resolution', which, given my track record, equals two days max. I will be back channelling 1999 in no time.

  29. These are a few of my favourite things!

The cast of SOM is on Oprah tonight. Chirs and Julia and all seven who played the kids.

(Thought some of you might want to know)

I never would have survived Saturday house cleaning (as a kid) without singing along with the reel to reel recording.

SmartsyArtsy. I watched that Oprah episode earlier today ! A must see for SOM fans:o)

You will see glimpses of and hear the real Maria von Trapp also.

The line that made me LOL when I watched SOM on komo 4 last night was when the
Baroness said: "Somewhere out there is a lady who I think will never be a nun.
    Auf Wiedersehen, darling."

Just watched part of the Oprah episode. While I do not normally watch her show, I will for the Sound of Music. The film is great, but the book of the true story touched me more. It is a little more boring in some ways, but much grittier in others. The afterstory about their journey to the states and getting established was great in the book.

Streaker is strangely reminded of certain happenings on the forum by this Maria quote :-)

"You know how Sister Berthe always makes me kiss the floor after we've had a disagreement? Well, lately I've taken to kissing the floor whenever I see her coming, just to save time."

  34. Several of the Von Trapps still live in N. VT. One daughter still sings, as do the grandkids who were on Oprah tonight. Up in Stowe VT, the Trapp Family Lodge sits on beautiful grounds. I attended several outdoor music events there and liked to go to the tea house. Either Fredirich or Kurt married a woman who is very active in doing agility with her dogs, along with a good friend of mine.

ST: Well, you are certainly close to the floor.

dsomers: Remember before there was /me back on chatboards?

    <---- jumps up and down.

ST: Say hello to pdx and have a voodoo doughnut for me!

angeline: frequently they were necessary. I remember demonstrating to newbies (censored for politeness)

    F you.
    F you!
    F you. :D
    F. You.
    F you. :/
    F you. >:b

All of those sound differently and the smiley dramatically changes the meaning. Even the different emoticons change the tone.

Embarassed to admit I saw that movie at the theater - in my defense it was 1978, disco was hot, and I was an innocent college girl madly in love with Barry Gibb ;o)
But then unlike GI, I adore musicals - to each their own.
