I get to go to the game on Saturday!! Question is - can you bring food into the stadium that has been prepared elsewhere...such as one's own home? Might be a dumb question but I don't really feel like paying top dollar for junk food...just wondering...anyone know?

You can as long as it is in a proper container. No glass, open containers, etc...but if you make some snacks and put them in a bag you should be fine. I would double check their website, but there are tons of vendors selling street food you can bring in so I don't see why you can't bring some from home.

    Enjoy the game.

Yes, you can bring in your own food. We often do that for Seahawks and Sounders games. Can also bring in factory sealed water bottles (or empty water bottles).

You should be able to NC, they certainly never care across the street at Safeco. Streaker hasn't been to a hawks game recently unfortunately.

And, just so you know, Streaker would go early, 1st Ave is going to be one lane each direction, way more of a nightmare than normal on a game day

Take the 15 or 17, trust me. It'll be slammed, but if you take it from Market you'll probably be able to get a seat.

Streaker took the 18 to a Mariners game once, left early and still ended up having to walk from the Pioneer Square area. Traffic was not moving, at all, nada zip nada. Can only imagine it'll be worse with the lanes on 1st being reduced.

Nora....This is a silly thought. But do you ride a bicycle? If so, take it into town on the 15 or 18. Stop somewhere between the Market and Marion by the Federal building. Take your time and bike from there to Quest. You will beat everyone by a huge margin. Traffic will not be moving so there is little risk to you. Ride on the sidewalk if you want. Then take the bus back home after. This would all involve very short bike rides but would help you avoid the worst of the traffic delays.

(sorry....a silly suggestion from a basicly insane cyclist. <grin>)

Catching a bus after a Qwest/Safeco event is always quite a challenge. Metro moves many of their stops and it's not always clear where to go.

I've had the best luck riding my bike down there. Cruising past all the gridlock, meandering a bit through the sculpture park, then snaking through the terminal 91 path to the Locks is a great ride.

Do you have a basket for your bicycle, Nora? Fill it up with snacks, get yourself one of those dashing scarves and some Jackie-O sunglasses and ride right up to the gate.

    edit: jinx dsomers!

What gooner said - take the bus downtown and get on the train at Westlake. Did this for the Mariners several times and it worked great. Seattle finally has a train - take advantage of it!

Biking is a lovely idea, however the forecast is for rain and a high of 47 degrees. :( If you want to sandwich that experience (there and back) with a 4 hour deafening, wet, and standing-the-whole-time Seahawks game in-between...you are insane!

H2o_girl. The train is a much better idea. I am already downtown and never think about it. That sounds like a much better route for NC to take.

Heatherheather. I was actually thinking of a pretty short bike ride for Nora Charles. Pike Place Market to Quest for example, or even closer if traffic permitted it. That wouldn't be any worse than walking really, just faster. Only us silly people are willing to bike from Ballard all the way each day; rain, snow or shine! <grin>

If you do the bus downtown then into the tunnel thing you can catch any bus or train that comes down there. They all end up at the International District Station. It's a short walk to Quest from there.

The bus is a pain on the way home too. Sounders games, they can run an hour late. It took me 2 hours once to get home from a day game. Traffic just doesn't get through. Take the tunnel and the 17 if that one goes to Pacific Place.

I like Qwest as a stadium, but they need to learn a thing or two from Safeco and get more then 3 microbrews at the stands throughout the stadium. Yes they have a couple stands down below, but cash only. Safeco has close to probably 12 mircos on tap if not more.

It still baffles me why Metro doesn't run the 15 and 18 southbound on 2nd Ave. It is light years faster than 1st.

dsomers - great idea to suggest riding a bike. And there is plenty of bike parking at the stadium.

I've tried buses several times to sporting events downtown from Ballard. The problem is always getting back home. The best option is to just drive and pay $25 to park. Its a lot better than 1) trying to FIND a bus and 2) trying to get onto a BUS. Especially if there are several people with you.

You can even reserve parking a little bit further away (.5 mi) and walk. Reserved parking is only $13 for this game.

This city wants to be pro-public transit, but they haven't figured it out yet. Will be happy when they do!

Absolutely agree on the post-game buses. Metro reroutes the buses during/after the games, but isn't upfront about the when and where-to. And when you finally DO find a bus, it may be so crowded you can't get on it. It can be a very frustrating experience! You seriously could be out there an hour or so trying to find a bus (been there, done that).

Had never thought about busing to Westlake and then train to the stadiums. Interesting idea.

Another option, especially if you have other people in your party to share the cost, is to bus down and cab back. We've done that, and it can be cheaper than parking, depending on where you'd park. Been about 20 bucks or just over for us doing this. I'd recommend walking north out of PS before trying to hail a cab, just to get yourself out of traffic and reduce the trip cost a bit.

There are three of us going to the game - we're going to take the train from Westlake then probably get a cab coming back...friend lives in CapHill so that's where we'll have the cab take us.

The idea of biking sounds wonderful but this 63 year old does not own a bike...maybe next spring I'll try my hand at biking but right now...not.

Thanks everyone for the very informative posts!!! MyBallard still rocks it!

NC, I would walk as far as you can from the stadium after the game before you catch a cab, maybe up to the Market even, otherwise sitting in that traffic in a cab could cost a fortune.

FWIW The Loft does a party bus to all home games that is a pretty sweet deal, call and ask for Charlie if you want details. A great way to go to games from Ballard.

    NC...

Poker's right. Try to get as far away from that area before you get a taxi. $20 will turn into $30 before your very eyes.

Are you bringing us all souvenirs?

Yet another "helpful" idea, NC, tunnel it back a few stops toward downtown and then grab the cab or a bus up the hill.

    Heatherheather,

My legs are too fuzzy to be sexy. I suspect brown bear somewhere back in my family history. <grin> It is well toned fuzz though!!!

Have fun Nora Charles!!! Hope the whole expedition is a blast!!! And if you do buy a bike next spring and want someone to show you the route to town over the locks and through the woods let me know. Would be happy to ride there with you.

Are those sizes and pricing universal for microbrews and domestics? I know Qwest serves fancy-dancy beer as well as the basement-level stuff. I was under the impression the large was for microbrew, and the small was for domestic.
