Obviously not Ballard related but it might be interesting.

As real little kid I was told I saw The Doc Severinson Tonight Show band and/or Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I have only vague memories of one of those shows.

The first show I went to on my own was Taj Mahal.....and I think he was opening for John McGlaughlin/Mahavishnu Orchestra but I can't substantiate this for sure. My Mom drove me and friend to the show in St Paul, we lived in SW suburbs of MPLS. Thanks Mom! I told her to pick us up at 10:30! Taj Mahal hadn't even finished! So I was either 14 or 15 at the time.

The next show was Leo Kottke at the Minnesota Orchestra Hall. Emmy Lou Harris opened for him. I think that was Nov-Dec of 1975.

Of course many great shows since then!

So embarrassing...10 years old - Nelson, row U at the Spokane Opera House. I remember they were swishing their hair in a lovely way and throwing out guitar picks like confetti.

I think my first concert without parents, was at the OK hotel back when it was all-ages, I want to say I saw Sage.

First big one - UFO 1979 Wolverhampton Civic Hall (I think)
First club one - Diamond Head 197? Penn YWCA, Wolverhampton (I think).

I also think these both could be wrong,

Edit: The Diamond Head show was 3rd August, 1978 at Warstones YWCA, Wolverhampton. I love the internet :-)

My first concert, as I've shared before was...

    "BOYD GRAFMYRE PRODUCTIONS, INC.
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
    July 1, 1969

Spectacular fireworks, arts and crafts displays, a variety of food service and more than twenty top musical performers are scheduled to highlight the FIRST ANNUAL SEATTLE POP FESTIVAL set for July 25, 26 and 27 at Gold Creek Park, Woodinville, Washington.

Representing the total spectrum of "pop" music today, nationally and internationally known artists set to appear are: CHUCK BERRY, TIM BUCKLEY, ERIC BURDON, THE BYRDS, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY, ALBERT COLLINS, BO DIDDLEY, THE FLOCK, FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS, GUESS WHO, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY, LED ZEPPELIN, CHARLES LLOYD, MURRAY ROMAN, SANTANA, SPIRIT, TEN YEARS AFTER, IKE AND TINA TURNER REVUE, VANILLA FUDGE, AND THE YOUNGBLOODS.

"Gold Creek Recreation Park is a perfect setting for a family event such as this," said Boyd Grafmyre promoter of the POP FESTIVAL. "In addition to the continuous entertainment scheduled daily, the facility includes swimming pools, large picnic areas, golf driving ranges, a miniature train and much more."

The Festival opens at 12:00 (noon) Friday, July 25 and will run from noon until midnight daily. The Retina Circus Light Company from Seattle will provide a special light show each evening at dusk designed specifically for the artists participating in the festival."

yeah, the others, even those I can clearly remember, tend to pale in comparison. ;-0

Rail (& Co.), 1978, in the cafeteria. (we still deny it really happened) But, it did.

    Teigyr,

It was a rather cheesy era wasn't it. Scary to see pictures from back then. Of course, scary to see pictures from just last summer. Sigh.

By the way. How do you pronounce your MB name? We were debating that last night at the scrabble fest?

I thought it was Tiger. Others thought it was teeger. And a few other variants were bopped around as well.

InterbayGirl... No offense, but Streaker claims the MB young title :-) Technically tied for it with Kat, but Streaker rarely ever sees Kat post these days. And ah, Depeche Mode...

And teigyr... dsomers is correct. There was nearly a five minute discussion of how the heck we're supposed to pronounce your name. Streaker was in the "teeger" camp.

Mine was Styx at the Seattle Center Coliseum, for the "Rockin' the Paradise" tour. I believe it was 1981...

mostobstreperous - I saw Bowie on the Serious Moonlight tour as well, but he played the Tacoma Dome not the Seattle Center Coliseum. It might have even been the first concert in the Tacoma Dome - found the date online here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serious_Moonlight_Tour#North_America_2, August 11, 1983. I had to look it up because I was thinking "now wasn't that show at the Tacoma Dome?"

Wow what a thought. the 60's were a mass of odd concerts for me, biggest regret was that a friends car broke down on the way to see the Stones in Aberystwyth Sept 7th 1963. I did see the Hyde Park, Brian Jones tribute concert in 1969, well I was there but tripping!
But I did see Bowie in the Chalk Farm Roundhouse in 67 or 68. And Pink Floyd at the Royal Albert Hall in 67.

Not 'rock', but the first real 'popular' concert I went to, and by myself was John Denver, about 1980.

Next was The Romantics - don't think I can call them rock either! Hee.

Then Chicago. Loved the brass, hated that they were going uber techno. Does that count as Rock?!

I was stuck on Whidbey Island with a dad who thought I should be home by 10pm.. so to go to a concert it had to be worth being grounded for 30 days, which when you are 15 and 16.. seems like forever... sigh.. wish I had.. last concert I saw was WAR, Tower of Power and James Brown on the Pier... I crashed into Bill Gates while "getting down" to James Brown. Mr. Gates was also dancing.. wow.. I am so old..
