Baked chicken... fresh asparagus (on major sale at Ballard Market) and WHITE rice, grin.

Hawaiian punch probably, or Almond Vanilla Milk.

Probably nothing but we don't work typical hours so our eating is all askew.

yeah I hear ya, I am trying to make like a "real" mom and do the Sunday dinner deal so that my son feels like we are the standard family.. we are anything but... all of us ADD folks here, (all non medicated at this point) go in five different directions and at all hours... I just cant seem to get dinner on the table at a normal hour, or its odd.. lol. The kid likes the unusual, the husband is tolerant and doesnt fling it on the floor.. he's cool.. but really I am trying to be a Sunday dinner at dinner time mom from now on.. maybe I ought to put the chicken in the oven now eh? lol.. I was so busy laughing at what I sure hope is a typo in this church cookbook, I couldnt find a recipe to tell me how long to cook a whole bird and what temp. I read this like 3 times, for a 13 (yeah 13) pound chicken.. just didnt seem right.. damn, that's a GIANT ASS BIRD eh? 13 pound chicken? it's a 1956 Church paper bound cookbook I snagged someplace.. so I am thinking I best find another recipe... lol They sure had some beeeg chickens in the day.. hahahha I am easily amused...

Cut up some red potatoes, rutebegas, carrots, a leek, onion, anything else you may like and toss them in some oil with some crushed garlic cloves and thyme. Truss a whole chicken, rub it down with salt and pepper, toss some garlic and thyme inside the bird. Make a "nest" in the pan of veggies and put the bird on top. 425 for 20 minutes, then drop it down to 400 for 45 or until the chicken is done. :)

Of course, we always end up with the f**king chicken on sunday nights...

But, it's never the kind that comes out of a bucket!

Cate what is EVOO? and boy I am wishing I did the veggie roast/chix nest thing, that sounds great! oh yeah.. I am so going to copy that down!! thanks!!

Yeah it is always with the chicken eh? it's usually cheap, and no one here doesn't like it, the three amigos included. One doggy, the long haired one (Murrily - like a drunk may say Merrily) is the official kitchen dog. She points at a pillow on the kitchen nook bench with her nose til we pull it down for her, then she "guards" whatever she smells, will not leave the kitchen NO matter what.. she is ON it.. lol.. like now.. I just "sprayed the asparagus" with olive oil and hit 'em with Mrs. Dash which I cut 50% with garlic and pepper, and threw them in the chicken pan hoping there is enough time left to bake them.. Thinking about the baked vegs. made me do that.. smile

Vegetarian massaman (mussaman) curry in the slow cooker. Making two days worth of food, so tomorrow is my easy day.

Leftover beef stew. But I am also baking some chicken legs and starting some chicken soup in the slow cooker. No energy to cut up the veggies tonight, so I'll do that tomorrow. It'll give me a chance to scoop off the fat without veggies getting in the way anyways.

I had a most delicious Sunday breakfast: butter fried french toast, sausages with quince syrup poured over the toast. Mmmmm.

Rudy: I always put rosemary (and frequently a lemon) inside the bird, but that may be because I have a big rosemary bush in my yard. :)

seattletree - EVOO = extra virgin olive oil. Sorry for throwing around abbreviations. Your asparagus sounds yummy - love roasted vegies.

Contessa microwave Chicken Alfredo (aka noodle crapola) from the bowels of the freezer and a small loaf of bread, sliced and smeared with too much butter, wrapped in foil, heating up in the oven.

I just couldn't make myself go to the grocery store today so it's ultralame dinner for us tonight. You just had to ask <sigh> :D

Phoo...I love rosemary and used to have a huge rosemary bush in the backyard. It went away during a remodel...I think its time to plant a new one! :)

A Slim Fast shake. D*mn diet. I'm really, really trying to be good but I should never have opened this thread. Boatgeek's Sunday dinner is sounding especialy good right now.

NB: If you can, try to think outside of the "diet" box. I lost 25 pounds last year without eating so-called "diet food". There are so many delicious things you can eat, and--with some exercise--can definitely lose weight. Tonight I broiled about 7 smallish deveined medium-sized prawns, Roma tomatoes, onions, some feta cheese, and just a bit of olive oil and black pepper. I also had a green salad with more Roma tomatoes, some sliced carrots, a little bit of sweet onion, a couple of slices of avocado, and a yoghurt-based dressing mixed with Paul Newman's low-fat balsamic dressing. Delicious and very satisfying. For dessert, I indulged in a smallish piece of Theo chocolate. A Slim Fast shake sounds pretty unappealing.

I don't want to sound like an expert because I'm definitely not, but if you want some pointers, I'd be more than happy to help.

    Hugs to you, my friend!

  29. Turkey sausage, pease & onions and pasta, which I have been yearning for at least 3 weeks. At least the penne was whole grain. Frozen peaches and strawberries for snack.

Nehalennia: Massaman sounds delicious. Now that I have a slow cooker, I'm making a list of recipes for it-- do you have a recipe to pass along?

Thanks, Elliott! Yeah, my long term goal is better choices but at the moment I've got 70 pounds of unhealthy flab to get rid of.
I did bake yams for lunch, with butter and cinnamon. Very yum. :-)

Best of luck to you, NB! I hated yams until about 5 years ago. Now I say: yum! Especially with just a tad of butter--and cinnamon? Really yum!

NB... Presenting Streaker with a zuke because you have too much for yourself is a sure way to annoy him. It's happened a couple of times strangely enough. Nothing like having a gigantic unpalatable vegetable bestowed upon you and then seeing the rejection in the face of the giver when you refuse it! <grin>
