Bought a Samsung Galaxy Plus in September for my techie-adult-nephew. I have it now. I don't need the uber-fancy thing. Don't need a cell phone. I will cancel my T-mobile monthly $100.00 two-year albatross-contract and pay the penalty fee.

What do I do with the phone? I'd like to sell it but I don't know how to get my information deleted. I don't even know if selling it is a legal option.

Yes, I'm almost 72. Don't start with me, please.

Sunrise....you might try going into a Tmobile shop and asking for help from them, starting with getting them to waive the early termination fee. If you lucky they may do it since it was a gift that you are now stuck with.

Then...here is a link on resetting the Galaxy plus to its factory defaults that will erase all the data stored in the phone along with any apps that were bought for it.

Note that this does NOT erase data stored on the microSD card which slips into the side of the phone. You will want to remove that card. If you know someone else with a smartphone you might see if they want that card. With an adapter you can plug it into your computer and erase it like a thumb drive or hard disk before you give it away or sell it.

The store should also help you when you approach them about waiving the cancellation fee.

You can certainly sell the phone. Perfectly legal.

Dave - I am indebted to you for the information. I was reluctant to post the need for help as it sometimes results in claws and fangs and fork-ed tongues. Thanks a lot.

oooh, the galaxy s is so sexy. I wanted the version with the keyboard though, and I am locked in with at&t (and don't have a spare $500).

If you are looking for a place to sell the phone my cousin is co-owner of phonesmack.com. They buy used phones and from what I've seen they actually do give a good amount of money for the phone.

    WOW! Who knew!

Thank you a thousand times for the information. It was an expensive gift to my nephew - live and learn. It is gorgeous - I just don't need a fancy-ass phone.
