Awesome. Great win...Italy is looking to hit their stride at the right time. Spain's quality was lacking against Portugal, Italy was superb today. Two recent World Cup Champions against each other in the final. Yes please.

Addressing something Eric mentioned before the England Italy match:

i can barely watch italy play, with the histrionics, weeping, etc. yes i know every team does this to some degree but italy has it finely tuned for sure.

As an insider I will admit in the past I did at times shout "knock it off" to the TV when the "gamesmanship" was on full display. However, I really haven't seen that from the Italians this tournament. Is that just me with my Azzurri-colored glasses? Or have those of you who watch the games noticed the same thing?

I've noticed the same thing Rudy. Actually, it seems like a lot of teams have dropped the drama.

As screwed up as American football is, I love how clean, rare, and honest the drama is. Well some guys get out of hand with touchdown dances, and partys after big hits, but overall I think the explicit brutality provides a healthy outlet for emotional release that keeps things to a minimum.

I mean, the intensity of raw, legal, and explicit contact of football is a pressure valve and releases energy that would otherwise build up and lead to the kind theater that IMHO is only found in football.

Does that clear things up for you?

rudy, i agree with you - the england match was the 1st i'd seen of them in a while and they looked very strong and played admirably. i even thought, "hmm. this isn't the whiney diving squad i remembered...". i readily admit this! (and conrats btw, i'm sure you are beaming)

PG was quite accurate in her prediction! nice work.

i bet a lot of people lost a lot of money betting this one!

Sorry she chose Spain when the match started and was in awe with the header for the 1st goal. The bloke from Italy didn't look to happy afterwards.

I will be signing her up for soccer soon and we had a great time watching.

Sounders still tied 0-0 at the half. haven't scored against Real Salt Lake in 4.5 games. the last four games pitting these teams have been 0-0.

should be a good second half, especially if someone scores.

Probably a good idea Ernie. The thrill of the game is when it is deadlocked at 0-0 at 89 minutes and you pray for a goal. Low scoring matches are better in "football"

I know I'm late to the game...but I'm still in awe of that goal. Anyone else would have taken another touch there but Super Mario didn't hesitate and what a reward! I hope they can come out of LA tonight in a good position for next Sunday. It's going to be a fun week.

What a goal by Ibra today! Gotta be up for GOTY hands down. Just sick. If you didn't see it, go watch it now on youtube. Hart punches the ball as Ibra is challenging. Ibra chases it to the 35 yard mark or so, turns on the ball, and does a bicycle that goes up high and drops into goal.

    that was quite a goal!

if you look at the close-up, it appears the goalie headed the ball instead of punching it away (which I would guess kept the ball a bit closer than he wanted):

I took another look and the keeper was outside the penalty area, so had no choice.

I'll bet Brad Evans would've tried it! (doubtful w/ the same result)

they're saying it's the best goal of all time in some circles..
