We've now lost power three times today. Granted only for about 10 minutes at a time. But it's windy. Extremely so.

Right as I posted it seemed to die down. Never mind :-)

Thought you were refering to myballard. Too bad the winds generated by the forum cannot be harnessed to at least cover the power used by posters like me! :)

Now that sounds like a plan Mr. Pryce :)

Very blustery for the bicyclist this pm. Once downtown, I pulled over, availed myself of a fine establishment in Pioneer Square for a quick refreshment and then enjoyed a nice snooze in dry and wind free metro bus into Ballard.

Yes yes from my short time here there certainly seems to be plenty of proverbial wind. Not a bad idea at all sir Jonathan Pryce! Say, perhaps you would like this song!

Had to go throw some more bricks on the roof to keep the house from blowing away!

it is blowing out there -- as hard as two days ago it seems like.
but two days ago up at Camp Muir it was incredibly windy - the columns labelled Min Avg and Max are wind speeds in MPH! Those 2 hours in the afternoon when the wind didn't drop below 100 mph and peaked at 155 must have been unimaginable:
Edit - the data won't format correctly -- suffice to say that for 8 hours in the afternoon on the 12th the wind up there averaged well over 100 mph!

Now the latest weather report there is strong possibility of a repeat. I hate the high winds - unless I'm down at the ocean. Love to watch winter storms down there - in a nice, warm, safe condo or hotel room. One time I was there and literally couldn't open my car door and when I did get out, I could hardly stand. And of course, the power did go out but had a fireplace so it was all good. Funny how I like it there but not here. Guess I'm afraid of trees coming down on my house or the roof blowing away or like one time, my fence completely blown down.

Makes no sense gracie. Much safer inland, to be sure.
But I agree, the coast is awesome when the fronts roll in. The best part of it for me is the stars, they are closer, or it would so appear, which makes the front even more impressive.

Gracie, ditto here. Crazy, what? And yet I can stand out there with the wind and the ocean spray hitting my face and I find I have an insanely huge grin on my face. I guess if it kills me everyone could say I died happy. 8-)

Damn wind blew the moss right off the roof!

Speaking of weather and the ocean, I just made reservations for my birthday at Kalaloch Lodge! Yay! Fireplace and ocean view! Hope we get some interesting weather! ;-)

Where's that, Silver? There are some awesome coastal places on the Calif coast midway up. Heck, you can even get near the water at Carmel for not that much and it is so nice in the winter. I know there are places near water here but are there places with ocean waves?

Yes, there are. On the coast. :-)
Have a great trip to Kaloch,, so beautiful out there. I haven't made it out to the peninsula for way too long. Hope you have a great birthday over ther!

Went Sailing all day on Saturday out of Shilshole. For several hours we were the only people in the entire greater Seattle area on Puget Sound. Rather windy to say the least.

gracie and lyl: I'm with you regarding your fear of trees falling on houses, etc., during major windstorms because we actually had a giant fir tree fall onto our house during the Inaugural Day Storm (the day Bill Clinton was inaugurated--maybe 1990?) while living on the Eastside. It was beyond horrifying to be at home seeing garbage cans flying down the street and watching all these giant trees swaying in the wind, hear the horrific sound of the tree falling onto our house, and then make the walk upstairs to ascertain what damage had occurred. Thankfully, the tree fell across the roof in a way which didn't cause much damage at all--a miracle. We also "survived" another major snow and wind storm in about 2006 or so. Our neighbors had a huge tree fall down onto their house which caused major damage. We were all without power for 7 days. It didn't help that it was January and that the temps were very low.

My friend was walking her dog last night in the wind, got hit by a flying tree limb, had a concussion, spent a lot of time at Harborview! Quite the bump and the headache today.
