To the A@*hole in the Silver Toyota 4runner that sideswiped 2 cars on my block @ 4:30 this morning, you can pick up your mirror @ SPD refer to case # 11-115051 or ask for Officer Maks, she may still have it.
To all friends and neighbors, please be on the lookout for this vehicle, missing passenger side mirror and mudflap, should be some damage to the front right fender as well.

did someone actually see this happen, or were you able to deduce the car model by the mirror and mud flap left behind?

I actually know a few people w/ silver 4runners. they seem like upstanding citizens, but I'll check their cars out just the same.

I have lived near that corner for 25 years. This happens every few years or so. One time, when they got our van and car (two in one swoop) while barreling down 17th, my husband heard the crashes at 2 or 3 am whenever that was---and went running down the street looking for them. Somehow he was able to ascertain that the crashing car belonged to friends of a neighbor down the street. (Maybe recognized it, I forget) In the Ballard way, my husband was able to get the deductible out of the offenders, eventually.

Cars nearest to the corner though are the most at risk, people speeding around the traffic circle and barreling down one street or another.

I heard the Crash (sounded really bad) looked out my window to see this 02-04 Silver 4 runner backing up ...stop, then speed off,I could not make out the plate as I was quite groggy. LY-yes, I agree this was probably the case here.Drunks like to use our street to go north while staying off of 15th,this seems to happen once or twice a year.

Were the cars near the traffic circle? Because I nearly plow into cars parked close to traffic circles all the time. Every day I almost clip cars at 16th and 70th. Every single day. Isn't there a law that states you must park at least 10 feet from the intersection (or more)? If SPD ticketed offenders of cars parked too close to the traffic circle this city's revenues would skyrocket.

I wish they did enforce any such law to prevent people from parking too close to the corner.
this isn't a problem for me at intersections with traffic circles--I'm usually going slow enough that I don't come close to clipping any bumpers.
however, any decent sized collectore street (32nd, 24th, etc.) where some clown is parked close to the corner really creates a hazard when you're trying to turn left in particular. cars fly down those streets quite often.
I've almost been hit a few times, and wondered later if I could get out of being "at fault" by taking a picture of the car parked close to the corner which obscured my vision. probably not.

dk, I recently noticed newly-installed don't-park-between-here-and-the-corner signs on both sides of 17th Ave NW just south of the NW 58th St traffic circle (by the Post Office). If you've got problem corners, you might be able to get similar signs installed by SDOT.

In a normal city the DOT would paint the curbs where you can't park and that's the end of it. Not here. No signs. No enforcement.

    SPG +1

I've always found it odd that there are signs that say not to park 30 feet from the corner, yet there are no markings on the curb. :/

    I am with you dk1038.
We need to paint or sign traffic circle parking better. I bet this guy was an early morning commuter. I almost sideswipe cars by traffic circles all the time and I drive much better than the average crappy NW driver.
Speaking of traffic circles, we keep trying to cram new circles into smaller and smaller intersections. It seems to be the bandwagon thing. A friend that has a kid going to the school on 65th told me they are proposing putting a traffic circle in at 67th and 18th. When I have been by that intersection during soccer games, you'd realize just how small that little intersection already is... sheer lunacy. After soccer games, the newish traffic circle by Salmon Bay Park (70th and 19th) was a stupid idea. It is almost impassible with cars parked in the region and speaking with many decades of Ballard experience, cars never went fast through that intersection before the circle as far as safety for the kids was concerned.

this was over 100 feet from the corner, seems more like a "Drunk drift" than a morning commuter, who knows, I just wished they would have owned up to it,not just back up ,throw it in gear and tear off.
