Bicyclist killed in collision on Seaview

Updated: A tragic accident along Seaview Ave. early this morning has left a bicyclist dead.

At 4:30 this morning, police and medics responded to the 7000 block of Seaview Ave. — near the Shilshole Bay Marina — for a collision between a car and a man on a bike.

Seattle Fire attempted to revive the bicyclist, but he was declared dead on the scene.

The driver was evaluated for any signs of impaired, but none was detected, Seattle Police said. He was interviewed and released at the scene.

Photos shared with My Ballard by Lucas Bonnema, who arrived after the crash, show the vehicle stopped in the middle of Seaview Ave. just short of a crosswalk.

The Burke Gilman Trail runs parallel with Seaview Ave. There are streetlights along Seaview, but it can be dark in spots at night.

Seattle PD says its traffic detectives are investigating. (Thank you Lucas for the photos.)

Earlier: A car hit a railing along 15th Ave. early this morning, killing one person, said Seattle Police. The accident happened just south of Ballard Bridge near W. Emerson St., in Interbay.

Police and fire crews responded just after 1 a.m. Emerson was closed for several hours.

Traffic accident snarls Ballard Bridge

Long traffic delays stretched deep into the evening commute after a collision blocked all but one northbound lane on the Ballard Bridge. The accident happened just before 3 p.m., sparking a car fire.
There’s no word on injuries. Traffic jammed Fremont, Aurora, Westlake and the Mercer Mess — making for a very messy evening commute. It took over an hour to clear the accident; all lanes opened at 4:10 p.m.

Update 9:10 a.m. Seattle Fire now clarifies that two vehicles are involved, a taxi cab and a Prius. A passenger in the back seat of the Prius was seriously injured. Two others in the Prius, as well as the cab driver, were also transported to the hospital but with less severe injuries. One other person sustained minor injuries and didn’t need to go to the hospital.

Update 9 a.m. One southbound lane now open. Tow trucks on scene.

8:40 a.m. A major injury accident involving several vehicles has shut down Ballard Bridge in both directions this Saturday morning. Traffic is being diverted through Fremont.

Seattle Fire Department tells us five cars were involved in the accident. Five people are injured — one taken to Harborview Medical Center and the remaining transported by private ambulance.

The accident was reported at 8:19 a.m. (Thanks Silver for the tip!)

Pedestrian hit crossing Market St.

A car struck a woman who ran across Market St. — outside a crosswalk — near 4th Ave. on Sunday night.

The woman was transported to Ballard Swedish with abrasions and other minor injuries. Westbound traffic along Market St. was diverted to 4th Ave. while officers conducted their investigation. The driver of the car was cooperating with police. A Metro bus was also delayed at the scene.

Hit and run suspect flips car on 15th Ave.

A white pickup truck smashed into the back of a car at 15th and Market just before 8 tonight, a witness says. A short time later, the truck flipped over on its side on 15th in front of Ballard High School. Police had him in handcuffs.

It all began a little after 8 p.m. as the truck headed northbound on 15th toward Market St. “A speeding truck came up, hit the center median and then rammed into the back of this other car, and sped off,” said Dylan, who witnessed the accident from the bus stop. He said sparks were flying off the truck as it straddled the center median before impact. “He got on the other side of Market, hit the median again, and sparks were flying off his rims. I saw him floor it all the way up. And a cop car was right behind him.”

That police car just happened to witness the accident, and tailed the suspect’s truck up 15th, where the vehicle flipped on its side at 65th St. We saw officers speaking to the driver, who was handcuffed and sitting at the bus stop.

Fortunately, it appears there were no major injuries in the accident. Our thanks to My Ballard tipster Silver, who just happened to hear the accident — the truck’s horn was stuck as it drove up 15th — and gave us a call. And to @bmvaughn, who saw the crash at 65th and tipped us on Twitter.

Bicyclist injured in accident on 3rd Ave.

A man on a bicycle and a car collided near West Woodland Elementary School just before 5 p.m. The accident at 3rd Ave. and 54th St. briefly trapped the bicyclist’s legs under the vehicle, Seattle Fire tells us. But other than abrasions, the man in his 40s sustained “no significant injuries.” He was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

No word on the cause of the accident, which was cleared at 5:45 p.m. Silver has been posting updates in the forum here.
