Saturday, April 12:

  • Mediterranean Herbs: Planting and Maintenance at Swanson’s Nursery (9710 15th Ave NW) from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Warm weather herb gardens thrive in the wet NW with a little special care. In this seminar you’ll learn about soil preparation, watering and care, harvesting and winterizing your herbs. Cost is free.
  • Golden Gardens Off Leash Area Work Party (8498 Seaview Pl NW) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  The team will be working on erosion control and filling holes. Coffee and water will be provided. Donations will also be taken to help with the new lighting to be installed this winter. All are welcome.
  • Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle Spring Concert & Dessert Reception at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church
    (13047 Greenwood Ave N) at 3 p.m. Suggested $10 donation at door.
  • Mindfulness Meditation Workshop at Kula Movement, Center for Yoga & Health (5340 Ballard Ave NW) from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Participants will be led through five different types of meditation and be given the tools and knowledge to create a successful daily meditation practice!   • The Nature Spirits Series at Kick It Boots & Stompwear (2607 NW Market St) from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The artist Marlita explores the spirit of connecting to nature, and the elements through folklore, fantasy and spirit using a mixture of different medias and imagery.Click here for more details.
  • ReStore’s Recycled Arts Show at Blowing Sands Glass (5805 14th Ave NW) from 6 p.m. The pieces range from the whimsical to the sophisticated, intricate to bold, folk art to modern craft to domestic handicraft. It is an entertaining collection all based on the concept that inspiration is where you find it.

  • Woodland Park Zoo Tree Walk (601 N 59th St) at 10:30 am. Woodland Park Zoo is throwing a Party for the Planet! Join them for a celebratory Tree Walk. Meet at the West Plaza.   • Dyeing Eggs Naturally Workshop at Swanson’s Nursery (9710 15th Ave NW) at 11 a.m. Bring your own eggs (cooked, blown or fresh) and learn how to create lovely leaf “prints” on your eggs using dyes made from natural materials.   • Art Show for Jessica Weathersby at Sweet Lily Salon and Spa (3000 NW Market St) from 5 p.m. Music by Pablo Trucker will be featured and local beer and wine will be served.
  • “Home Sweet Ballard” Brewmasters Dinner at Ray’s Cafe (6049 Seaview Ave NW) at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature five talented breweries from our own Ballard neighborhood. Cost is $45. Click here for more details.

  • Leif-to-Leif 5k Fun Run/Walk from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. starting at 2245 NW 57th St. Race from Leif Erikson Lodge to Leif Erikson statue at Shilshole Marina and return. All ages welcome from toddlers to grandparents as race is at your own pace. All participants receive a Norwegian flag and waffle.
  • Leif Erikson Lodge Tastes of Norway – Heritage Day (2245 NW 57th St) all day. Traditional Norwegian foods, music, folk songs, dance, food and craft demos all day, genealogy (library) all day. Entertainment every hour with a different musician and bunad parade at 1 p.m.
  • Learn to Meditate at Kadampa Meditation Center (6556 24th Ave NW) at 10 a.m. Cost of class is free.
  • Literacy Volunteer Tutor Training at Literacy Council of Seattle (8500 14th Ave NW) from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Volunteer opportunities available all throughout Seattle.   • Mostly Nordic Concert Series: How Swede It Is at the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St) at 5 p.m. Violinist Karl-Ove Mannberg, Litteris et Artibus Medal recipient and veteran of the stages of Europe and the United States, joins pianist Lisa Bergman with a fabulous sampling of Swedish masterworks by Stenhammar and Fryklöf paired with sassy Piazzola and esteemed European masters.   • Mostly Nordic Concert Series: Devilishy Danish at The Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St) at 4 p.m. Danish-born Mads Tolling, two-time Grammy Award–winning jazz violinist, internationally acclaimed, and former member of Turtle Island Quartet, is joined by celebrated pianist and composer Aaron Otheim in a delightful blend of jazz and classics — Danish style! The weekend events calendar

Here’s a look at what’s going on around Ballard this weekend:

  • Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. is the Crown Hill Landmark Tree Walk. Starts at the corner of 13th Ave NW and NW 95th St. Arthur Lee Jacobson, author of Trees of Seattle, will guide the walk.
  • The Seattle Bicycle Music Festival will be at Bergen Place Park from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Listen to pedal-powered music by Leaf Colors and Ethan J. Perry.
  • Saturday is the Olympic Manor garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Olympic Manor, entrances at: NW 85th & 23rd NW; 15th NW at NW 90th; 24th NW at NW 90th.
  • From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, EarthCorps and the Green Seattle Partnership will spend the day at Golden Gardens Park on the National Day of Service & Remembrance. The group will be performing maintenance on past restoration sites and removing invasive plant species such as English ivy.
  • Saturday evening is Ballard’s Second Saturday ArtWalk from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • On Saturday evening, The Market Street Singers will perform at Ballard First Lutheran Church (2006 NW 65th) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., celebrate the opening of the new Ballard Food Bank at their community open house. (5130 Leary Ave NW).
