Also happening is the annual Olympic Manor garage sale on Saturday, and a special premiere showing of the Ship Canal documentary “Seattle’s Waterway to the World” at the Ballard Locks on Sunday.

  • Golden Gardens Forest Restoration, 9am to 12pm. Volunteers needed to restore the forest at Golden Gardens Park.   • Groundswell NW Parks and Projects Walking Tour, 1:30pm to 3pm. Join Groundswell NW veteran board member, Dave Boyd, on a unique guided walking tour of Groundswell NW supported parks and projects. Learn about the history of growing parks and improving natural habitat in the Ballard neighborhood and discuss the current challenges our city faces as the availability of new green space is affected by the increased demands of density.   • Ballard ArtWalk, 6pm to 9pm. Enjoy live music, live painting, art installations, and other wonderful works of art at many shops in the heart of Ballard. Bring your friends and make a night out of it with art, music, and food in walkable Ballard. This is a free community event and all are welcome!

What’s on this weekend

This weekend is the culmination of Seafair, which means most of the city will flock to Lake Washington to watch the Blue Angels as they work their aerobatic magic in the air. The bulk of the festivities will happen in and around Genesee Park. Keep in mind that I-90 bridge will be closed on Saturday and Sunday from 12:55 to 2:40 pm for the Blue Angels air show.

Meet at the south end, just north of NW 60th St, to spruce it up in anticipation of the Night Out party coming up in early August. Please bring water, work gloves and any favorite weeding tools. We’ll provide safety vests, light refreshments and some tools.

  • Ballard High School’s ‘Battle in Ballard’ basketball tournament. BHS basketball’s primary fundraiser for the year, the Battle in Ballard brings together 20 teams from around the northwest for a weekend full of basketball.   • Ballard Criterium bike race in Old Ballard. Course uses Ballard Ave NW, NW Dock Place, Shilshole Ave NW and NW Vernon Place. Races start at 2 pm, and the streets of the course will be closed from 12 – 9 pm.

  • Ballard High School’s ‘Battle in Ballard’ basketball tournament. BHS basketball’s primary fundraiser for the year, the Battle in Ballard brings together 20 teams from around the northwest for a weekend full of basketball. Games start at 9am at BHS gym. Tickets $5 for adults, $3 for students.
