National Nordic’s new virtual exhibit features experimental selfies from Seattle high schoolers

The National Nordic Museum has opened a new virtual exhibit this month that features the work of more than 50 high school students from the Seattle area.

The students’ contributions are featured in an exhibit called Experimental Selfies: Students Respond to Edvard Munch’s Photography. It features the work of AP Photography students from Seattle’s Ballard High School, Garfield High School, Nathan Hale High School, and Roosevelt High School.

The students’ exhibit is inspired by Norway’s Edvard Munch, the famous painter and photography experimenter. Students created their version of self-portraits that are visible on the museum’s scrollable gallery, along with Munch’s work. The students also included an artist statement with each piece, which can be viewed alongside their work.

The National Nordic Museum plans to keep the exhibition open for viewing through their hopeful reopening in 2021.
