The Ballard Goodwill (6400 8th Ave NW) could be redeveloped into a 300-unit apartment building.
A new land use application has been filed with the Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections (SDCI) for the redevelopment plans, which is for a “mixed-use building with approx. 300 apartments, retail and below grade parking.”
According to reporting from the Seattle DJC, Evergreen Goodwill currently leases the building from a Portland-based investment group that purchased the 1.6-acre property in 2000. Before Goodwill, the building was home to a Safeway and a Doc Freeman’s marine supplies store.* Goodwill took over the space in 2004.
The Ballard Goodwill is one of Evergreen Goodwill’s largest retail stores in Seattle. The Ballard store just underwent a minor renovation earlier this year, relocating the entrance and expanding the sales floor in April. Evergreen Goodwill also added a second Ballard donation drop-off site at 1145 NW Market St in 2025.
