Embroidered Wall Calendar ft. Robert Mahar

October 23, 2022 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

The new year is right around the corner, but you have plenty of time to welcome its arrival with a hand embroidered calendar! Join artist and maker Robert Mahar in learning core embroidery basics, essential stitches, and how to apply them to this 2023 calendar design custom printed on a 27″x18″ panel of cotton linen canvas. Instruction will also cover machine hemming the fabric to neatly finish your project as a wall hanging or tea towel–with the option to tackle this step in class or complete later at home. The end result is a thoughtful, handmade gift for anyone (including yourself!)

The vintage illustration of spruce tree components was sourced from a scientific text on German flora, first published in the late 1880s. It has been digitally restored and paired with minimalist typography–creating the perfect canvas for your embroidery embellishment. This workshop is a unique approach to needlework utilizing a non-traditional, free-form sampler that allows you to utilize your favorite stitches and determine their placement. This class is well suited for beginners, but students with more embroidery are also encouraged to join for a fun refresher course and the opportunity to apply their skills to a large-format botanical graphic.

All materials (custom sampler, practice fabric, a limited palette of 6-strand floss, wood hoop, and needle!) along with instructional diagrams are provided and included in the cost of the class. If you have favorite embroidery tools or prefer specific colors of embroidery floss (6-strand or perle), feel free to bring those items to the workshop.

This class will take place at Monster on Sunday, October 23rd starting at 11:30 AM. The address is 1716 NW Market St. Seattle, WA 98107.

6 people minimum, 12 maximum. Ages 18+

All attendees will receive 20% off same-day purchases at Monster. Discounts can’t be applied to original art, gift cards, or class tickets.
