SUMMARY:Nordic Innovation Series | Feminist Economics: The Hidden Value of Care
DESCRIPTION:Join one of the Nordic’s sharpest and most widely read young voices out for a talk on the true cost of care work.\nFor centuries this has been written off as “women’s work”: essential\, invisible\, and unpaid. Danish writer and feminist economist Emma Holten exposes a fundamental flaw in our value and economic systems\, designed centuries ago to overlook care work.\nWhat is caregiving really worth in the “happiest countries on earth”\, and worldwide?\nHolten’s international bestseller Deficit: The Hidden Value of Care reveals how the economic models that drive political decisions today are just as flawed\, giving us unparalleled monetary wealth\, but causing deep social harms.\nThe talk is followed by audience Q&A.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Ballard Festival
DESCRIPTION:Neighbors\, creativity\, and practical climate action – all in one festival. Explore hands-on demos\, local projects\, repair and reuse\, growing and sharing food\, and low‑waste living ideas you can bring home the same day.\nJoin Sustainable Ballard’s volunteer-powered community. Meet neighbors\, visit project booths like tool sharing\, mending\, gleaning\, and clothing swaps\, and find simple ways to live more sustainably – individually and together.\nOur theme this year is the Power of Community\, and there’s perhaps no better example of that power than the sharing economy. Why buy something new when someone in your neighborhood already has exactly what you need? That’s why this year’s festival features two swaps you won’t want to miss!\nBring games and puzzles you’ve enjoyed but are ready to pass along\, and find something new-to-you. At the Home & Kitchen Item Swap you can give your gently used cookware\, dishware\, small appliances\, glassware\, décor\, and other household treasures a new home. And don’t forget the apples! If you have an overabundant apple tree\, bring a box of apples and a container and turn those apples into sweet\, sweet cider to take home.
