Early AM accident near Whittier Heights

At 5:30 this morning, a car accident near the Whittier Heights neighborhood sent one to the hospital and attracted the attention of a media helicopter.

Our sister site, PhinneyWood.com reports that a two-car collision on 8th Avenue Northwest at NW 75th Street at about 5:30 a.m. temporarily blocked traffic while police investigated.

According to police and one person involved in the accident, a Geo Metro ran the stop sign on NW 75th Street and got T-boned by a Ford F150 pickup truck heading south on 8th Avenue NW. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries, police said. KIRO 7’s chopper reported live from over the scene.

Don, who lives nearby, said he heard a “screech and a whoomp” at about 5:30 a.m. and ran outside with his camera and shot the above photo. There are more photos of the accident here.

  1. if it's a police helicopter, that's one thing.

but to wake up a whole neighborhood just to get some aerial footage of this incident seems absurd.

    Chopper 7 Fail.

  2. I know, right?- last month when the car went into the ravine on 3rd NW there were 3 helicoptors hovering for 1-2 hours.
We thought for sure it was some hostage situation, but no, it was a car crash! That's what ground crews & Jim Foreman's for!

  3. Yeah. Does KIRO do all their reporting by helicopter now? Can't they just be happy with ground footage. It IS just a car crash.
I hope everyone, including the nut who ran the red light, is okay.

  4. It may be “just” a car crash to you, but for the people involved (one of whom was seriously injured) and their families it is a little more like a major traumatic event. And before you go around labeling someone a “nut” think about the last time you accidently went through a stop sign (not a light). Try a little more sensitivity and a lot less being a loud mouth blowhard before you spout about things you know nothing about.
