Congratulations!01/26/2017 at 4:45 pm #85001
Indeed! Although I’m a little surpised it’s still here.
Huzzah, huzzah, etc.01/26/2017 at 9:20 pm #85002
Happy anniversary. This website sure has changed. Glad I was able to meet several other people who posted here before, well, the wheels kinda fell off. NextDoor is very different, and doesn’t really measure up when it comes to a feeling of community.
Even so – I’m glad this website hasn’t been shut down yet.01/28/2017 at 11:55 am #85023
Haha – 10 years old! A lot has changed in that time. This forum has basically been abandoned. It used to be a lot of fun to come here and play but that all changed.
Ah well RIP to the old MyBallard Forum.
The main page does try to keep up with the latest Ballard news and that is good.
I hope all the old participants are still out there and doing well. All the best to you in this new world we have.01/29/2017 at 8:59 pm #85024
Make the forum great again. We miss pickles…01/31/2017 at 5:38 pm #85029
Miss Pickles, huh? Sure being sarcastic. BUT she is 4 now, still tiny, weighs 5#. Developed hyper sensitivity where would attack herself then seizure. Had horrific wounds from this. Then couple months ago injured and tongue swollen to where couldn’t eat, drink, total distress. New vet who saved her life. Was told would have to put her down if steroid shots didn’t work. Just hours before to bring her back to be put down her tongue went down and ok. And few weeks later the hyper sensitivity and seizures quit. She is still not happy with new addition..a year and half old dog who really wants to be pals.
see what happens when you mention Pickles. Bet sorry now!02/01/2017 at 1:52 pm #85030
Wow, sorry to hear about the little kitty’s illness.02/01/2017 at 10:03 pm #85031
Thanks. The seizures and attacking hard to watch. Twice I tried to stop the attack part and ended up in doctor’s office with pretty badly bitten thumb. She couldn’t help it as in seizure.my doc wanted me to wear super heavy gloves around her, which of course I didn’t.
I would love to see this forum come alive again. You, Penny, Buffalo, oldguy, Wahoo and the rest. BRING BACK THE FORUM FOLKS.02/02/2017 at 9:51 am #85032
“…and the rest”? now I know how the Professor and Mary Ann Summers felt in those early episodes.
I’m glad to see your posts still have that ‘telegram-like’ style, gracie– brings back fond memories.
I agree Miss Wahoo that Nextdoor is very different, although there’s some good entertainment there (especially with two of the leads– one a conspiracy-theorist and another former frequent poster of this site who thinks Ballard’s been going to hell in a hand-basket for years and years now). it gets old though, the obsession with garbage, homeless, potholes, etc.
it would be interesting if this forum suddenly had some sort of resurgence02/02/2017 at 3:44 pm #85033
Hi Great Idea! Sorry for not putting your name. Had a brain fart right then trying to remember names. There were so many great people (and a few rather not remember!!) I am not sure what telegram writing is but no need to explain.
And I agree about Nextdoor. Those two leads going at it and the obsession with garbage, homeless, that mental guy who hates women apparently, the police and our mayor. Does get tiresome.02/03/2017 at 1:41 am #85034
hi gracie– sometimes it seems like you’re composing your posts as telegrams:
“Had horrific wounds from this(stop). New vet who saved her life (stop).
it’s as if you’re dictating it or trying to save money on words, but trust me, it’s endearing (even if Edog used to call you out on it).
he and pennygirl used to have some great rapport here. I sometimes think of her when I go to that hillbilly QFC on Holman road (as I did today).
ironically, today I also saw that mental guy gracie refers to above who has a 7000+ comment thread about him on Nextdoor. he was just strolling down the street minding his own business.
Nextdoor can not replace the great dialogue we had here. something about the anonymity and self-policing was conducive to some more well-rounded discussions (as opposed to having two particular ‘leads’ who set their agenda on Nextdoor which only serves to skew the thinking of actual neighbors).
so, are you all rooting for the Falcons on Sunday?02/03/2017 at 1:53 pm #85035
Great Idea, I had been told I was too “wordy” so tried to cut it back (stop). Although there were some nasty trolls here, like one who hoped a person’s house would burn down (thinkm it was Pennygirl) I enjoyed most of banter. Miss banter with Buffalo. Hope he married that girl who also posted here. Sounded like perfect for him and his Mini Me daughter. (Oh my god, I do write telegram style! (Stop)
I am not a football fan but yeah Falcons!02/04/2017 at 9:38 am #85050
Go Falcons! Patriots are too involved with Der PumpkinFuhrer.
And FWIW, on MyBallard we can probably talk about the crazy guy that is now the supposed POTUS!02/15/2017 at 2:22 am #85114
I remember the trolls that’s why a lot of us like me wouldn’t talk much. I also remember everyone meeting up in Ballard to hang out and I thought that was cool of you all. The conversations among the regulars was always fun when everyone got along. It’s just the rude people that made the place annoying. They need a block button or something.02/16/2017 at 2:39 pm #85115
“Although there were some nasty trolls here, like one who hoped a person’s house would burn down (thinkm it was Pennygirl) I enjoyed most of banter”
Incorrect. And really insulting, Gracie. Do you really think I would hope that someone’s house would burn down?02/16/2017 at 3:07 pm #85116
Pennygirl…so not saying you said that. Reading post again can see where you would get that idea. I was saying I thought you were the one who was the victim of that hateful comment about burning house down.
sooooo sorry for the misunderstanding.02/16/2017 at 3:24 pm #85117
Ahh. It was the house up the street from me. Someone made a supposedly funny comment about the house burning down, before taking into account that it was my neighbours and their dogs. The dogs didn’t survive.04/03/2017 at 10:14 pm #85246
10 years, crazy. Lots of interesting and entertaining threads on here over the years. Learned a lot about the neighborhood and enjoyed meeting some nice folks through this site.
Well, see you all later. The march of progress has finally reached my little piece of Ballard, and after years of telling ourselves that we were going to tough it out in our little bungalow, we finally decided to sell out to our townhouse overlords. There’s still a chance we’ll end up staying in Ballard, but heading to the south end just looks so much better on the pocketbook.
See ya on r/seattleWA!12/12/2017 at 8:43 am #87019
apparently I still have a login. :)12/12/2017 at 4:09 pm #87023
It is good to see the forum back again. I did not post very often but I missed it when it died down. I hope it becomes active again.12/12/2017 at 4:38 pm #87024
Yeah, I made some smart a*s comment about some house on fire, and was chided for it. I own it, I earned it, its in the past. It was a flip remark made years ago, so I don’t recall what I said, but I never “hoped a person’s house would burn down”
Oh, and on the subject of the Hill Billy QFC, this past summer I was there and it was like MILF central full of smoking hot cougars buying tubs of ice cream and cheap liquour, I went back a few weeks later on a good hair day, and it was but a bunch weirdos using paper coupons buying charcoal and frozen hamburger, I went back a few weeks later, and it was nothing but a bunch of MAGA hat wearing idiots buying postage stamps and machine rolled cigars… I’ll never understand that place.12/18/2017 at 8:46 pm #87090
Edog – I miss your posts!
It is interesting that this site faded away. I am curious about why that happened. I think I remember that there was some problem with the site and then that got fixed but about the same time Nextdoor started up and suddenly almost nobody was posting on MyBallard. There was a lot of trolling and i am sure a lot of hacking going on on MyBallard and things changed, but it is still interesting to me why some of the frequent posters on MB stopped posting and as far as I can tell never started posting on ND?
I like to post on ND and enjoy the interactions on the various topics. But I am still interested in why this Forum is basically ignored now?12/19/2017 at 10:40 am #87103
If I remember correctly, there was a problem with the new Discus platform and many people just couldn’t get back on, and for a long time. When it did get straightened out a bit the new format didn’t seem as “connected” as the old one and I think many dropped because of that. I use ND a bit but there’s something about it’s layout that I find tedious to sort through.12/20/2017 at 5:20 pm #87124
The technology was a lot of the problem. I think the constant hand wringing about the homeless problem, and what seemed like mocking attacks towards anyone presenting a nuanced or outright dissenting viewpoint caused a lot of people to look elsewehere for their discourse.
Certainly, it had lost its spirit of a community coming together to share viewpoints. Once that’s gone, it’s hard to get it back.
I’ve never been to ND, and doubt I will.
I miss the dialog here.
