Just saw a TV ad, apparently we’re “in the final hours” of the big retirement sale…

I noticed the same thing Novalis. Walking home from ye olde Ballard at around 11:00 the snow got heavier each block north of market. It seemed like the temperature gradient was such that 25 ft of elevation was making the difference between rain and snow.

It’s hard enough to turn left onto Leary from 20th without having to try to see past the dude waving the stupid sign. I think it’s time to pull the plug on that “retirement” sale.

We went to that new place next door to the Traveler on Leary (didn’t catch the name) yesterday and it kicked Smokin Pete’s ass.

This is the part that pissed me off:

And you are so fragile, a slow antelope pacing an elephant herd. You trust that I’m not oblivious, distracted, half-tanked or a full-blown sociopath eager for sport. Your faith bewilders me, frankly. While I don’t challenge your legal or moral rights to ride, sometimes I wonder about your sanity.

The subtext of the whole article is that the writer doesn’t think that cyclists belong amongst the “elephant herd”, and he uses his “fear” to justify feeling that way.

Maybe it is my own bias showing, but the whole thing sounded to me like “I’m trying not to hurt you, but if I do happen to hurt you (like occurred in 3 cases I witnessed previously) it won’t be my fault because slow antelopes don’t belong around elephants, and, anyway, you cause me to feel fear, and the only reason that you’re not scared too must be your insanity.”

It comes across as very condescending IMHO.

Yeah, when I saw the heading I figured that it was this piece.

I think the “average” driver is much more comfortable in his abilities behind the wheel than this guy is. Also, I call BS on the 6 mile road with no place to pass. I grew up biking and driving on the roads in and out of Bellingham and I can tell you that there is no problem what so ever waiting until it is clear and pulling around a cyclist. This guy’s problem seems to be that he doesn’t think he has to wait until it’s clear.

“The only reason I don’t hit my horn is because antelopes are so easily startled.” What an A-hole.

The groups tend to focus a conversation among members with similar interests, while lost/found pets should be intuitive and visible to the wider forum audience. You shouldn’t have to be familiar with navigating the various forum pages if you’re a first time poster trying to find a missing pet.

Also, on an unrelated note, is it possible to set it up so that the user is directed back to the previous page after logging in? It’s kind of clunky to have to navigate back from the front page after logging in to post a comment. It would also be nice if the message telling you to log in to post contained a link to the login page.

    Thanks.

As of 30 minutes ago they still had skittles at the QFC on 24th. We bought 6 bags!

I didn’t see the show last night, but I’m not surprised that Metallica phoned it in, after all it has been 25 years since they first played One live on the Grammys in ’89 (or maybe it was ’90).

Back then they totally killed with that song, and it was unlike anything seen before on the fairly straight-laced Grammys show. Today playing a “greatest hits” selection like that is probably just a precursor to them embarking on the tribal casino tour…

We had a Japanese Chin who had epilepsy and was on phenobarbital for most of his life. If not on medication his seizures would be a weekly occurrence and we were told that it was possible for a bad seizure to be fatal. When he was on his meds the seizures were more like every other month, and much milder and shorter duration.

We were worried about the affect of the phenobarbital on his health, but it wasn’t great having seizures all the time either. He never had any liver problems, but died relatively young (for a small dog) at 10 from heart failure. Don’t know if the medicine was to blame or if it was unrelated, but that little guy sure made the most of his time here anyway.

You do have to be a little bit concerned about him getting hurt during a seizure, such as falling off of something, or having one while in the water.

A funny story along those lines was when we were camping once with a bunch of people and dogs and there was this little Chihuahua named Monty. Monty was a tiny little horn-dog and he would try to hump the leg of any person or dog that would allow it. Well our guy, Mr Chin, was not one to be humped and he let Monty know in clear terms pretty much right away, and Monty backed off after that. On the second day of the trip were were sitting around by the river drinking beer and one of my friends said “Hey, look at Monty humping the crap out of Mr Chin!” It turned out that he was having a seizure and was unable to defend himself and Monty took advantage of the situation to start grinding away on him. Mr Chin held himself in very high regard, and I’m sure that the assault to his dignity was hard for him to get over!

Good luck with your little guy.

But.. It’s not really about that, so carry on.

I feel your pain Mrs. Wahoo, my family moved here from CO in the 70’s and while I have only a secondary allegiance to the Broncos, my sister is still full on.

If it ends up Seahawks/Broncos I’m for the Seahawks, my dad is for the Hawks, (just out of sympathy for the fact that the haven’t won the SB yet), and my sister says she is going to have to travel to Denver to watch the game…

VB, thanks for the heads up on the nest location. My dad is into photographing eagles and has several nests that he stakes out in Whatcom and Skagit counties looking to get pictures. Just yesterday I was telling him about the eagles I have seen perched on the cranes on Harbor Island and he asked if I knew of any nests.

I’ll have to go down and take a look.

@GS now I realize that I was mixed up reading your responses to my two questions. I understand about the images, too bad that a few people keep us from having nice things.

As for the “Name” category in my profile, it seems like it should be possible to turn on the option of who to share a Name with, like it is for the other categories (website, etc).

    Thanks.

“Img” is an option at the top of the edit field, it asks for a link, then asks for a caption, and it should embed the linked image in the post. Error message says “not available at this time”

    Thanks for looking.

Hi GS, no problems logging in, but I have a question:

The “Name” field is required, but you can’t edit who can see it (default “everyone”) so I just put in my screen name.

I would think that this functionality should allow you to choose who can see your name so you can share your real identity with “Friends” or “Members” without sharing it with “Everyone”, is that how it is supposed to work?
