Green cottages almost ready

Posted by Geeky Swedes on September 29th, 2008

The 60th Street Cottages at 22nd Ave. & 60th St. that we wrote about earlier this year are scheduled to be complete early next month.

The 4-star green certified homes are billed as an alternative to the cookie-cutter townhouses. It’s high-density living without the shared walls, although the 9 homes sit just feet from each other.

Prices for the 2-bedroom, 1000 square foot cottages start at $429,000, down from the $450,000-$500,000 advertised in the spring.

Has anyone heard when they're having open houses? I'd love to see how they've worked the space/functionality.
  • I have to admit, even as one that sometimes has considered purchasing a townhouse, these "cottages" don't really seem to deflect the "cookie-cutter" complaint...

That being said, I'd still like to check them out to see what the floor plans are like.

Floor plans are online here: http://www.60thstreetcottages.com/

I think most new developments in Ballard are UGLY, but I don't think these look half bad. They have some nice color and there are a number of trees planted around the cottages. The problem is the price!

Hey, those are kind of cute. Looks like a nice compromise between a townhouse and a single family...very small yard for those that really have no interest in taking care of one, no shared walls, and windows on *all* sides. Sweet. They do seem awfully expensive, though.

We peeked inside over the weekend - they do look really nice inside, with nice materials. One is already marked as "sold." It's unfortunate that once people move in, the lovely appearance will be scarred by all their parked cars next to the cottages. They really jammed way too much onto that site. Whatever - their money. They're very cute, but I just don't get it.

Nearly half a million for one of those?

    Seriously?
  • I guess I am the only one that finds these insanely ugly. I much rather see a line of townhouses. At least they don't look like minute doll houses.

    I agree with you Nina.

Brick faced, east coast style town homes > "cottages"

very cute, but expensive ...it is almost $250 a square foot! Where is the storage (they should have had basements!) and all the parking will be on the street which will impact the street parking for others. I am not a fan of anymore townhomes, condos or else for Ballard, but at least the others provide a garage, and allows the cars to go in them instead of tying up the city streets. It will also increase car thefts, etc. I think for 1/2 a million dollars I would want more than a green house where I could hang my hat...and not much else. There ar e lots of homes with yards and garages available for a lots less in Ballard and in the surrounding areas. I think they are cute, appreciate the green factor, but not all that and a bag of chips for the money.
