Two arrested after robbery Saturday night

Two suspects were arrested on Saturday night after a victim says he was robbed on the street. According to police, the victim was on NW 70th Street near 16th Ave NW just before 9 p.m when two suspects confronted him. “One of the suspects demanded the victim’s wallet while the other suspect stood with his hand in his waistband, indicating he had a weapon,” police say. The victim threw his wallet at the suspects and ran. He called 911 and officers arrived quickly, according to police. An 18- and 22-year-old were positively identified by the victim and a witness and the two suspects were arrested and booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery. No weapon was ever recovered, though police did find the stolen wallet and a ski mask.

  1. so is this ‘robbery with a weapon’ then?
or is just ‘indicating’ you have a weapon by putting your hands on your waistband ample to prosecute at this level?

maybe he hand his hands in his waistband because he was ‘indicating’ he really needed to go to the bathroom?

  2. 15th ave is like a cancer running through Ballard, I feel sorry for folks living in the 3 block radius of it who have to deal with the thugs and drug addicts who frequent it.

  3. Any more on the physical description of these two? Do they match the descriptions of the two Hispanic men that have been committing robberies in the Ballard area? I’m sure that you are already looking into that.

  4. Never, ever go downtown to Pioneer Square, or to Belltown, or the ID. Better yet, stay home. They’ll get you as you walk out the door. Or you’ll die of fright. And never visit a bigger city. You’ll sh*t your pants in fear.

  5. I’ve been wanting a new Glock for a long time, maybe I have an excuse now. The 39 looks nice, but I would like to learn more about the .45 GAP cartridge. It’s only about half an inch shorter than the .45 auto 36. I’ll need a new holster too…… I love shopping!

  6. Dave, crime and drugs aren’t really an issue on15th up past 65th, but more so down by Market street. Most of the crime in N Ballard seems to happen in Loyal Heights and Crown Hill. I have lived 3 blocks off 15th for 4 years and never had a hint of a crime issue.

  7. Hey Jim,

I don’t want to see you wasting your money, so I just want to make sure you’re aware of this before you go on your shopping spree — your penis will still be the same size, even if you buy a gun.

  8. I lived in downtown Detroit for 2 years, does that count? Also spent 6 months in Kabul……and traveled to about a 40+ other countries

Ballard is Mayberry dude, if you think it’s a ‘big city’ you’re the one showing how little you’ve traveled.

  9. +1 on wanting the physical description of these two. Also, their home addresses. Are they local to the area? Or do they just consider crown hill their turf?

  10. I always love the ‘move to Bellevue’ bozos who emerge when people justifiably complain about thuggery. Ballard is a suburb of a sleepy little town I call ‘Seattle’. If you think you’re some slick urban hipster living in the Bronx, you clearly are a rather unsophisticated and poorly traveled boob.

And yes, I have lived in big cities: one with 15 million people, one with 10 million, 7 & 6 million. 600,000 in Seattle? Omg, it’s the friggin’ urban jungle’!

Grow up dude. Your comments make it look like your from podUnk.

  11. Hey ESR. Has it EVER occured to you that if more people actually carried a gun legally, perhaps, just perhaps these (and many more) crimes would end in a different fashion? Do you have a sign in your front yard telling the entire world that your house has NO guns in it? And why not sport? A desire to keep what I or anybody else has, has NOTHING to do with the size of our penis. But nice try. Calling 911 eventually brings a person with a gun. OMG a gun. Maybe we should just sit down and talk it over with the thugs? Just like terrorists, we don’t want to really piss ’em off, do we? Run Forest run

  12. dave, i think you’re missing the satirical wit of not afraid’s post. you then pompously imply that not afraid is unsophisticated… weird. i do like the contradictions though – i’m going to start referring more often to the “thugs and drug addicts of mayberry.”

  13. No contradiction. Just pointing out we need to work harder to keep Ballard safe for the good people and families. apparently some folks think that makes you a pu**y and celebrate thuggery as opposed to taking a stand against criminality.

    Satirical wit? Not so sure.

  14. No, I certainly don’t advocate perpetuating a cycle of violence. I don’t get the comments supporting citizens arming themselves that always seem to follow posts about local crimes. Really? You think you would have happened to have been there with your gun when this happened? And done what? Shot someone? Possibly killed someone who was stealing a wallet? Do you really think someone deserves to die for that crime? I’m not saying that I condone the crime in the least, but these blood-thirsty responses sicken me.

It’s a fact that if you have a gun in your home, it is much more likely to be used on someone you know than on someone perpetrating a crime in your home. If you are in a house with children, they are at greater danger from gun violence, and it is also available to be stolen and used in other crimes.

So do I think I’m safer with you having a gun? No. I don’t know anything about you – I don’t know if you know how to properly handle a gun, I don’t know if you know how to properly store a gun, and I don’t know anything about your moral compass.

  15. Well if he thinks Seattle is a city, he is unsophisticated. It’s a big town, Ballard is a nice suburb so, yes, I don’t expect armed robberies, murder and sexual assault here. Crazy me!

  16. I was walking with my four year old and my 80 pound lab just a block over to peek at the moon. Two cop cars drove by very slowly and I figured something was up so we headed back home.

Free Ballard (from monkeys and toads!)

  17. Punk? I thought you accused me of be frightened? Can’t you even keep track of your own insults?

Btw I was frightened quite often in Detroit, especially the time we got car jacked by St. Andrews. Had the pleasure of living in Indian Village at the height of the crack epidemic. Maybe you’d be happier if Ballard were more like Detroit in 1989?

  18. Please define a city for me. What are the minimum requirements? Is it purely population? crime? race? income? # of cars? # of high rises? density of said population?

  19. no, that is not what you were pointing out. you were expressing first pity, then judgment. if i were worried at all, it would be about arrogant paranoiacs. frighteningly, they seem to be better armed than the “thugs.” anyway, the crime rate here is the lowest it’s been since 1967.

  20. It’s was ‘not afraid’, not I, who defined Seattle as a ‘big city’.

Would you agree, compared Mexico City, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Bombay, London?

Best way I heard Seattle described was a ‘Mayberry on the Sound’. Sounds about right. Mainly white, middle class, well educated and a population of less than 600K. But take a stand against crime and suddenly you get called a suburban wimp. Gotta laugh at you people.

  21. “the crime rate here is the lowest it’s been since 1967.”

Where, Seattle? Or on 15th Ave? And if you’re murdered, mugged or sexually assaulted on 15th ave. would that even mattered? Would you tell the woman nearly raped near 50th & 15th last year that she shouldn’t complain, because hey, crime is down!

  22. “if i were worried at all, it would be about arrogant paranoiacs.”

Really? Can you point to one crime they’ve committed in Ballard in the past 10 years?

    Didn’t think so.

    Enjoy your delusional hug-a-thug culture.

  23. “Possibly killed someone who was stealing a wallet? Do you really think someone deserves to die for that crime? ”

Self defense is not an issue of whether a criminal is ‘deserving’ of getting killed or not, and luckily WA state law agrees.

“If you are in a house with children, they are at greater danger from gun violence, and it is also available to be stolen and used in other crimes.”

That’s why you buy a gun safe. Most responsible gun owners know this. Unfortunately the punishments in this state for owning an illegal weapon are far too soft.

  24. Oh lordy, the hug-a-hug crowd’s gonna start shedding tears if one of their POS ‘victims of society’ gets taken out.

  25. ” the crime rate here is the lowest it’s been since 1967.”

So, there has been a drop in armed robberies along near this stretch of 15th ave in the last 6 months?

  26. I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were. The kid in KCJ had two with him for two of the muggings. Sounds like they may have been united.

  27. Do you think that might be because there’s nothing AT 15th and Market? You’ve got a vast parking lot at the Safeway (disregarding the crackhead-designed “gazebo”), a smaller parking lot at the Walgreens and the gas station kitty-corner from each other, and an endless wasteland on the other corner that extends all the way up the block. Look at this intersection on Google Maps and you’d think it was a nuclear bomb site. Economic and social life, expressed in foot traffic, drives out crime. There is none of either here. The only foot traffic is people without options trying desperately to get somewhere else as fast as possible. It’s one of the worst corners in the entire city.

  28. Oh, that’s fantastic. I hear that’s exactly the weapon the stickup artists are looking for, and when they take it off of you, it’ll save them a bundle not having to pay for it.

  29. No, the strawmen that you like to portray don’t think that. Most of us wouldn’t care too much if one of these idiots got shot trying to rob someone, but we don’t want you to get shot trying to play hero either. It’s a wallet. How much cash do you carry vs how much does treating a gunshot wound cost should you survive? Let the cops do their job and keep an eye out for each other like the witness in the story did which helped the police catch these idiots quickly.
The actual citizens commenting on the macho fantasy just happen to realize that even if you carry a gun all the time everywhere you go the chances of you actually getting to use it with a positive outcome are ridiculously slim. The chances of it being stolen from your home while your not there are pretty good, and that means another gun in the hands of the next round of idiots like the two arrested in this story. You having a gun will not impact the likelihood of street crime in a positive way unfortunately. Yes, it’s counterintuitive to what the NRA wants people to believe, but it’s the reality of the world we live in.
If you really want to avoid being a victim of crime you’ll do much better by just getting a dog.

  30. I don’t have a problem with a mugger getting shot, but I think the likelihood of that actually happening when they try to rob someone who carries a gun is pretty slim. Muggers will get the drop on you and then what are you going to do? Pull your gun out from the holster, release the safety, aim, shoot, all before the two guys already pointing guns at your back can shoot you?
The reality will be just like what happened in Ballard a year or so ago…the guy with the gun got hit upside the head and they took his wallet and his gun. Now there’s one more gun in the hands of the criminals and the guy is not just out his wallet, but also an expensive gun and he got hit as well. Luckily they didn’t shoot him with his own gun.
I really don’t like the creeps to think that nobody is armed, but the reality is that it doesn’t do enough to really stop these types of crimes. What does stop them is having active and involved neighbors like the one who stopped and called the cops when he saw that something was up.

  31. I have no issue with someone getting killed if they’re pointing a gun at someone. If you live by the sword you should expect to die by the sword. I also spent plenty of time carrying a rifle and sidearm in the military and have been in situations where I’ve had to point guns at people. In short, I’m not with the hug a thug crowd.

That said, there’s one HUGE flaw with the gun as self defense against robbery notion: robbers typically ambush their victims. Having a gun for self defense only works if you have it at the ready and aimed at the robber before they can aim their gun at you. If someone tries to rob you you’re likely not going to know it until they already have their gun pointed at you, often from behind. Do you really think you’re going to unholster your weapon, take the safety off, spin around 180 degrees and fire an aimed shot faster than they can pull the trigger on a gun they already have pointed at you? If you think you can pull that off then you’ve been watching way too many action movies.

As for more legally armed citizens resulting in lower crime, can you provide any data to support that argument? Not saying it’s not possible but I’ve yet to see any numbers to back that argument (and the gun lobby example of Switzerland doesn’t count – that’s a totally different context on so many levels).

  32. Problem is if you’re gun is in a gun safe you may not be able to get to it fast enough to stop a robber. I’m all for people owning guns but owning them for self defense just doesn’t make much sense as a practical matter. For the gun to useful for self defense it needs to be readily available. Problem is readily available would also mean readily available to other people in the home (like children). On top of that you run the risk of accidentally shooting someone you think is an intruder but who actually turns out to be a family member.

And yes, the punishment for illegal gun ownership is WAY too low. It’s also ridiculous that people who leave guns unsecured in their homes and then have them stolen also don’t get severely punished for aiding criminals. Intended or not you should be held accountable for arming criminals.

  33. Why, thank you for your interest in the size of my penis! It’s not the sort of thing one brings up in polite company, but since you think it concerns you I’ll tell you it’s truthfully rather large.

  34. Really, show me the stats for “most of the crime in Ballard are in LH” check the SEA GOV crime stats Loyal Heights is one of the safest parts of the city. Calling BS .

  35. A 3 number gun box can be unlocked in about 4 seconds. If someone is breaking into your house and you keep the weapon loaded in the box, you’ll be fine.

” punishment for illegal gun ownership is WAY too low”

This we agree on. Anyone caught just once with an illegal weapon should go to jail. Only people who have cleared a criminal background check and mental health check should be allowed to carry. Anyone else? Straight to jail.

  36. A pox on thieves and robbers. If they have to cool their heels in KCJ (which, I’m told is just about the worst place in Washington State) it serves them what for.

  37. ’twasn’t asked when I posted. You have to check all the time stamps and realize that just because you read it higher up the page it might not have been posted first. Wait a minute…what the hell am I doing even responding to this? <-- You should have asked yourself that question too.
