String of break-ins, thefts in east Ballard

One of our readers wrote to tell us of a string of break-ins over the past few nights on her block in east Ballard. Nicole writes that for the past several nights, neighbors on her block (NW 52nd St between 8th and 6th Ave NW) have experienced car break-ins and have had items stolen from their front lawns and porches.

“My block is feeling rather vulnerable and in many ways terrorized by a person or persons who has targeted the same street and set of houses night after night over the past several weeks,” Nicole says. She says that not all the break-ins resulted in something missing, but says that a few nights ago, her neighbor’s wallet was stolen and another neighbor’s window was smashed. “People have filed police reports, as the person or persons seem to be escalating, moving from unlocked cars, to locked cars with cracked windows, on to locked cars and smashing windows.” Nicole says this is the first time in 5 years that she has experienced anything like this. “I brag to others about the safe and wonderful neighborhood in which I live. Now I am starting to be concerned about staying here if this doesn’t change, especially as the block seems to be targeted night after night right now,” she says.
