Trace your Scandinavian roots at the National Nordic Museum

If you’ve always wondered about your Scandinavian heritage, you’re in luck: this weekend, the National Nordic Museum will host a genealogy expert who will help participants learn how to find family records.

Instructor Jill Morelli is well-versed in genealogy research, and will speak about the “Big Three” of record finding: parish, census/clerical surveys, and emigration records for Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

“This highly interactive class will ensure that each participant leaves the session with a research plan specific for their country of origin,” the event info reads.

The class will be held Saturday, July 27th from 1pm to 4:30pm, and costs $18 for museum members, $22 for non-members. You can register online beforehand, or at the Admissions Desk on the day of the class.

  1. My grandmother came from what today is Bergen, in 1889, and when my daughter was going through Seattle public schools years ago, and the stuff came home to fill out regarding race and color I always created my very own special box for “Norwegian-American” and sent the thing back with her to class!

        1. “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”

That’s exactly how I read the original comment. Why else would someone go to those lengths to identify their child’s race. Because they thought it was worse?

          1. Being proud of one’s heritage is not the same as disparaging another’s heritage.
But, you already knew that didn’t you? You just want to spew your stupidity here rather than interact in the real world.

          2. How is that any different than a white pride rally? Which I assume you support since it’s just being proud of one’s heritage.

          3. Your question is too stupid to respond to.

I am a painter. I can be proud of a painting without having a deep seeded belief that all other painters are inferior.

          4. Haha ok, so you won’t even come out against white pride rallies and I’m the one who is stupid.

          5. As a mixed race woman I find your white baiting equally dangerous as white pride rallies. It’s people like you who get people like me murdered.

          6. THAT is a STRETCH!! LMAO!

Celebrating one’s Norske heritage is one thing… White Pride idiocy is ENTIRELY something else.

Also: There are no “RACES” of human – just so ya know.

          7. Let’s see, who historically has sponsored white pride rallies? ku klux klan, aryan brotherhood…interesting. That’s why it’s different. Because “white pride” is different than “Norwegian-American” and you know it. Get your bigoted ideas out of here.
