What’s that building next to Ray’s?

Posted by Geeky Swedes on April 29th, 2008

That’s what the Shilshole Blog asked some time ago about that new building under construction along the water next to Ray’s Boathouse, right at the entrance to the Locks. We looked up the land use filing.

It says it will be “a 10,544 sq. ft. marine, retail sales and service building including a caretaker unit” along with 36 parking spaces. One of the comments on the Shilshole blog claims that the caretaker unit is for the owner, who met the permit requirements for shoreline property with a marine-related business. Talk about a terrific location (from Google Maps)…

Who would want to live in a giant azteca replica? This John somebody, owner of Triad, must be out of his mind.
  • Ballardo
It is still better than Azteca. What a heap that place was!
  • Walt is absolutely correct. I work for the fire protection sub-contractor on the project. It's pretty amazing how blatant and brazen everyone is about obviously violating the zoning. The entire second floor was built out as a commercial office space, inspected, then converted to residential under a non-structural interior improvement blanket permit. Goodman's wife is did all of the interior design work for the residential floor.

The rumor is that this "renovated restaurant" is going to house the personal car collection of John Goodman, the owner of Goodman Racing/Goodman Real Estate/Triad Development/Pinnacle Realty. The rumor is that he is going to be living above the Garage. I believe it is a clear violation of zoning and permits and local community activists need to call him out on it. He now lives in Magnolia across Salmon Bay within eyesite of this massive building in that stucco faux Italian villa house that looks like it belongs on a golf course in Arizona. Welcome to the Jungle!!
  • My boyfriend was sure it was some sort of residence, but I said no way would you be able to get a permit. Neither of us could remember if there was a structure there before. I guess we were both correct.

i'll bet that the "caretaker unit"-warming party will be bort den krok.

Wait what...its a terroist hideout, with a view and the proper permits? Can they work on my Mercruiser?

John somebody, owner of Triad, a huge development company, is the owner I believe. It is basically a residence, masquerading, for permit reasons, as something else.

A monument to excess? You be the judge....

I thought this was an overhaul of the old Azteca building, not a new structure.
  • chelsea
wow. Apparently we're all going to hypothetically die.
  • Wow, political spam. Nifty
