Congratulations for getting the attention you deserve! Seems I never know what’s going on now that I don’t go to bars and don’t need a barber anymore. Glad MyBallard is here to keep us informed. Keep up the good work.

I second that keep up the good work! I have been so happy for all the very very local news since you started.

I also love MyBallard and hope you’ll have the time and energy to keep it up after the baby arrives (congrats!) — hopefully that point you’ll have a good tip network in place so you don’t have to chase every midnight siren… :)
I’m glad you guys liked the profile but it seemed a little “sour-grapey” to me. There’s a far-cry between between the blogs like this one that do a mix of original content and gathering of links to relevant articles and websites that we might not otherwise have noticed, and those that just barely skirt theft by posting large swaths of original articles and not driving much traffic at all to the originating sites.
MyBallard has sent me to the Ballard Tribune site more times in the last month than I’d been in the last few years.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised that Peggy was so obvious about her resentment. Perhaps she should have had a friend look over her article before she submitted it. Yes, Peggy, you were blogging Ballard first. Yes, you have to cover boring meetings. Yes, MyBallard sometimes chases sirens. They’re obviously meeting a need.
When I have a lot of extra time on my hands, I read Peggy’s page in the Ballard News Tribune. I have learned important things about the Ballard Market, and about the terrific little fair trade coffee shop out front. Most of the time, however, her poetic, wandering style frustrates me and makes me wish I could just get the information without the artful prose. Sometimes its downright tedious.
Don’t get me started on Dean Wong - somebody get that man an editor!
MyBallard.com is bite-size morning news. It’s interesting and timely, and it has GREAT PICTURES! I can comment easily, and even contribute to the content when I have time.
I didn’t know I needed MyBallard.com until I found it. Now it’s a valued part of my daily routine. The Geeky Swedes have a good sense of what I will be curious about.
Keep it up you guys!

I commend the MyBallard.com for linking to a profile that explores questions about fast-changing times of web content and is not entirely “rah rah” I am old-fashioned and really needed to meet them in person to get a sense of their motivation. They provide the great photos and bite-size news with links to more in-depth pieces. The real goal for all of us driven to write about the neighborhood is to collectively provide a community with resources that include breaking news and historical background. I think that between caring and tech-savvy people like the Geeky Swedes, the local paper and other blogs we can work together to really keep people informed.
I’m just a writer living in Ballard with my own outlook and style; it’s great to have MyBallard on top of the quicker bits. My style is more geared to people who like to sit down with a physical paper and read it along with a cup of tea. I’m sleeping so much better knowing they’re on top of the sirens.
