Update: That didn’t last long. Now the sign is gone.

"spend your energy on making sure the new development has some character"

    I couldn't agree more

I won't miss it... spend your energy on making sure the new development has some character.

I walked by the sign at noon and someone had handwritten on it "You'll never get rid of us Norskies".

Well now, hang on a minute, Phins. It's purely an emotional thing.

While I disagree that the dismantling of Manning's is the last vestige of historic Ballard, at least these folks aren't saying "darn you for taking down this beautiful building!". At least it's more about their perception of what is happening in Ballard then about taking down that butt-ugly building.

As I hate said time and time again (and I really should stop), I can understand the disappointment in losing another "landmark"- I felt that way! But to say RIP to history Ballard is over the top. So I don't think simple minded so much as maybe a little irrational. I can dig; I've been that way. Your last line probably says it best...

Come on! Still plenty of history there, sign-hanging folks! Cheer up! :-)

I saw the sign when I drove by the other day. It is pathetic to think that whomever put up that sign felt Mannings/Denny's had anything to do with historic Ballard.

Question (and I dislike being mean, however) Who are these obviously simple minded Ballard trolls who post on this (and other) sites and put up signage like that? Really makes me wonder. What, if anything, are they thinking? Seems like a reaction to the first feeling that enters their body without attempting to think it through.

I agree with Joel, that sign is super lame... historic Ballard had been there 50 years before that 1960's monstrosity went up - AND last time I checked there were a ton of new successful businesses in Old Ballard - thanks to the influx of new housing at the perimeter.

That sign is a bit extreme. Once again, let's not make this in to something it's not. Still plenty of historic Ballard left!

I believe the original 1930s Mannings was farther west on Market Street in the historic business district of Ballard.
  • YOU LOST!
^^ seriously. But that's the problem with losers, they don't know when they've lost be it today or 20 years ago.

Several decades late to mourn Mannings.

    bored now....
