Fighting graffiti in Greenwood and Phinney

The other day, we posted this photo of the closed Greenwood McDonalds.

Some folks said they’ve noticed a recent rise in graffiti in the Greenwood and Phinney neighborhoods. Turns out, the Chamber of Commerce is launching a program to create volunteer clean-up teams as well as work with local artists to create new murals. Go here for more information and to volunteer.

The Greenwood precinct has a high crime rate for all types of property crime and vandalism is not a big priority with the police and the punishment is nothing. All the public can do is keep cleaning it up.
To the kids it’s daring, creative and encouraged by youth culture. Every year there’s a new bunch of these idiots that think we should look like Brooklyn New York. The vandals have their web sites to display photos of their latest mess, trade techniques and concepts. Unless there’s a major shift in youth culture, it will never go away.

I'd rather have murals than graffiti.
I'd like to see vandals arrested and punished severely.
Require an age limit on the purchase of spray paint.
We must keep our eyes and ears open as a community to rid our neighborhoods of these pests.
I'm a 28 year old male. If I see someone throwing up graffit in my area, they are going to have problems.

I like murals. I especially like the ones underneath bridges, what else would you put there?

    Please.... no murals.....

Murals are the "mime" of visual arts. It's like the bad intercessional music productions during the Academy Awards.... f'n awful.

Nobody really LIKES murals, mimes and jazzy musical vignettes... It's just that we've lost the cultural courage to say "STOP".... THIS IS CRAP!

    We don't need "McMurals"

If you protect private property owners, by arresting and punishing the taggers - you'll be amazed to see what they will invest in our community.
