My Ballard reader Ivy noticed that DiVino on Ballard Ave. has closed…

and this sign is in the window…

Looks like we’re getting a sushi restaurant and cocktail lounge called Shiku, which matches up with Ballard Gossip Girl’s recent rumors about a new sushi place opening by September.

They’re already getting to work on the inside. We have to admit, we are big sushi fans, so we’ll be anxiously waiting to see how Shiku stacks up to some of our favorites. (Thanks Ivy for the tip!)
Update: Ballard Gossip Girls says this isn’t the new sushi place they’re talking about. So, two sushi places coming to Ballard Ave?

awesome… never was a big fan of divino. their wine was so so (too italian for my taste) and the decor just didn’t work. i felt like i was in belltown.
i love sushi and will be welcoming this.

Yay! Hopefully they’ll scrap the interior entirely. That place reminded me of the Milk Bar from Clockwork Orange. They were always skimpy on the pour and charged about $2 too much per cheese on the cheese plate.
With Portalis right across the street, I knew this place wouldn’t survive long.

I had many a good times at divino and will be sad to see it go.

Well, just what Seattle needs. Another Sushi/Asian food place! Geez..

Actually, I’d say Ballard does need a sushi place. We only have is Sam’s, which is fine. Something with a little ambiance would be great!

I’m looking forward to a good sushi place too. Sam’s is so-so and not consistent so I have my fingers crossed that this will be good stuff.

” just what Seattle needs. Another Sushi/Asian food place!”
What’s wrong with that? I love Asian food….so do many Asians. A lot of the Asian food in Seattle is terrible, though, so hopefully this place will rise above the slop.

This is great news. One less snooty wine bar and some competition for Sam’s.

I hope it’s a good sushi bar, not inconsistent. I think this is a good development for Ballard Ave.; between DiVino & Olivine, some shaking up had to happen.

Actually, this is not the one we’ve been talking about. We’re getting two sushi joints.

Oops. I thought maybe I had it figured out … but notice I did hedge my bets in my blog entry as all the pieces didn’t fit. :-) For sushi lovers let’s hope they both make it … and that neither kills Sam’s.

Yup…today is saw another sign up a few doors up from the Divino location which says a sushi place is coming. But I can’t remember what the name was. It’s In the new construction next door to the senior housing construction.

I’m not at all surprised by this! DiVino’s wine selection was very minimal. For a wine bar, there should be a HUGE array of wines to pick from. Adios Divino! Holla sushi…

I walked by and saw that the same contractor is doing this sushi place as did Dolce Vita and that place ended up looking pretty cool. Hopefully it will be a great place to check out.

Was sad to see DiVino go…had some nice events there. However, very stoked to see a (hopefully) good sushi place added to Ballard. Agree…hopefully the decor will be shifted…wouldn’t “work” for a nice sushi place.
