The Sun Café is now open

Posted by Geeky Swedes on September 11th, 2008

The paper over the windows at the Sun Café is down and the “open” sign is bright in the window. We first wrote about the small café on 6th Ave NW & Market, just across the street from Le Gourmand, in July and it officially opened yesterday. For now they’re just serving coffee and espresso, but they’re hoping to have their pastry counter stocked by tomorrow. At some point in the future they also plan to add pre-wrapped sandwiches.

To say hello to the neighborhood, they’re giving away free coffee today (Thursday). (Thanks Eden and Brian!)

  • Drew Christie has been making drawings and paintings since he was 3 years old. His drawings and paintings are now up in the newly opened Sun Cafe. You can see them on his art blog: www.democracyforthecartoons.blogspot.com or in person at the wonderful Sun Cafe!

glad to hear about the wifi! As a working guy, the best wifi is the kind that doesn't refresh and re-require a password on an hourly basis.
And I like me coffee BLACK!

As long as I get my coffee in the morning on my way to school, I'll be happy.

The free coffee (and espresso) for the first two days were a really good idea, and they were good stuff too. Could expand more on the syrups (though you already have Raspberry..which is really the only syrup I get with drinks), but I'm pretty sure you're already working on that. There is always the Cash and Carry right behind OfficeMax around Leary and 14th..they've got tons of things.

Anyhow, happy to have you guys around.

Thanks for being so patient with us (or rather, me) so far. I know everyone has many questions.
Let me start with the hours. For now, they will be limited.
    Hours:
    Mon-Fri 630am to 6pm
    Weekends 730am to 5pm.

Wi-fi: We'll be providing it soon (still working out the details).

    Menu:
Our menu is growing. For now, it is just coffee, tea, juices, and fresh local pastries. Upcoming items are a selection of vegan foods, sandwiches (vegan and not), and loose-leaf teas. I'll update everyone here.

All of you I have been able to meet so far have been so gracious. Thank you! My mission is to serve you well. Please feel free to send me your ideas or suggestions (or better yet, list them here).
  • I have been about 3 times now and each time they have a few more offerings. The atmoshere and Coffee are Great! Posted hours would be nice. I loved the pumpkin bread.

Excellent coffee! Nice and airy, I'm so glad there's such a cool coffee place nearby. A big fan of these small places - definitely has that small mom and pop friendly feel. Thanks for the free coffee today - best I've had in a while!!

I think the owner said they close about 5 or 6pm. it's a daytime only thing.

I actually live about a block away, so I decided to go check. They are closed now and do not have hours posted in the window.
  • Ben
    When do they close?

"free coffee" = free espresso drinks too! I was just there. They have excellent Stumptown coffee. I totally forgot to ask about wifi. Doh.

Anyone know if they've got wifi? That's crucial.
