Fremont Bridge open after accident

Posted by Geeky Swedes on February 18th, 2009

Updated 4 p.m. The Fremont Bridge is open again after a serious head-on accident that was reported just before 11 a.m. today.

A white van and SUV collided head-on on the north end of the bridge, resulting in one serious injury and sending two others to the hospital. A third car was involved, as well. Medics performed CPR on the most seriously injured patient. The Humane Society was called to take care of a dog in the van.

The accident was bad but didn't make sense that the driver would die from such a low speed accident in a new model car with air bags that deployed? According to the Seattle Times the medical examiner has questions about the cause of death as well and there is some question if it was the result or that she crashed after she passed out from a drug over-dose or suicide attempt like we first heard.

    What happened to the dog?

OMG! my deepest apologies for this untimely death! it really is sad, sad, sad. my love and hope goes out to her family and children. i hate it when the children have to deal with such tragedy of a parent. it affects you for a long long time.

best regards & peace to you,

I was at the entrance to the south side of the bridge when this happened ( I thought everyone was ok because there was a guy waving cars by almost immediately) I was then only 2 cars away when the Fire Dept pulled her from the car and started CPR.
VERY VERY SAD!!!!! IM SO SORRY FOR THE FAMILY!!!
It did appear that something had gone wrong long before the crash do to the way it all played out. I think the officer was right.
The Fire Dept did a GREAT job!

Unfortunately a loving friend, wife and mother of two sweet young boys was killed in this accident. She was a very wonderful person with a beautiful heart. She will be missed and will be missed dearly. Our hearts go out to her family.

I too heard about this crash on the radio. Great pix. Well, kinda. I too am concerned about the community of drivers. Now they get to also deal with insurance companies and the fun they deal. Too bad that and the Ballard bridge aren't bigger, higher, wider, etc. Oh well, at least they don't catch fire like they used to.
  • Driver
I hope the driver's ok. Whenever a driver is hurt , I know the whole community of drivers feels the tragedy.

Kim, if it was the accident that shut down the Ballard Bridge a couple of weeks ago, the vehicle was green.

one of the officers on the bridge said there was probably a medical condition (he speculated a brain anurysm) that may have caused the crash. serious stuff.

    Is it still closed? 4:15pm?

"Really? But no cyclists were hurt right?"

Once again showing yourself to be a true intellectual titan?
  • UWSea
Just saw on the Seattle Times website that the bridge is now open.

    Which accident is that kim?

    bb-

do you recall the color of the vehicle involved at the interbay accident? if it was white, then yes, you're onto something.
  • jules
the kiro7news.com site said that the injuries were all car drivers, no cyclists mentioned in the few taken to the hospital. that's good at least.
  • jules
i heard that there were 2 cyclists invloved but i did not hear if they were injured. i sure hope not!!

I used to work down in that 'hood and would always see ridiculous moves in that intersection by the bridge. People would pull out of the spots in front of PCC and think the bike lane was a car lane and wind up going against the one way street. Others would try and turn left into the do not enter part of N34th.

"let’s not forget about the humans involved…"

Really? But no cyclists were hurt right?

if they have a handy dandy red light camera than they should be able to tell what happened by reviewing that. i sure hope the dog is OK. obviously the people too.

i just went through fremont and wondered what had happened. came home and checked here first to find out, i just dig this site! thanks again for the info.

Drivers fly through there pretty fast while trying to make the light.

i hope the drivers are ok too, let's not forget about the humans involved...

White van with the dreadful accident on 24th and 65th, white van with the UPS thief...I don't know, maybe bb is on to something...I can't imagine what happened for both cars to wind up on the wrong side of the road. Hope the dog is ok.
